Work around Dorset?

Hi guys, seriously planning a move to Yeovil (to my mum’s old flat) in a few months, but unsure what work is around. I am in Glasgow at the moment so there is always something but it really looks like the sticks down there (which is good in every other respect but I also need to earn a living). Is there much in Yoevil itself or am I best to look at a commute to somewhere like Bristol? Any local knowledge would be much appreciated!

The village of Wincanton is 16 miles from Yeovil. I believe there’s a massive haulage company called Wincanton, you could start looking there.

C or CE? Tramping or day work? Try agency, Best Connection or Driver Hire both in Taunton.

Day work for sure, but I’ll take what I can get to start off. Thanks man, a ‘decent’ agency is the probably the best way in. Do you know if there is much work over the area or is it limited to a few firms?

Thanks, yeah you see them all over of course - that’s clearly where the name comes from. I see they have a couple of depots in the area.

It will be like any other part of the country that isn’t heavily industrialised or geographically centrally positioned, there will be some distribution and agricultural transport and general haulage, just not as much transport activity as, say, the Midlands. I’m sure you’ll find something.

At risk of sounding pedantic, isnt Yeovil in Somerset

Yep or it was yesterday and today when I went through it

It is, but it’s pretty much on the border with Dorset.

Fair comment but a bit of basic geographical knowledge comes in handy.
Well . . . it used to

I’m sure there’s plenty of tipper/quarry work not to far from Yeovil. Maybe shepton mallet/Frome area

In yeovil you have Gregory’s Garador (Class 2 tramping) and also CLEAN Linen Services. Nearby in Sherborne you have Hunt’s Foodservice, Class 1 and 2 vehicles. Also nearby in Chard if you don’t mind multi-drop pallet work there is C & D South West. If you fancy milk tankers there is Pattemores in Crewkerne.

Tipper/quarry work near to Frome

Kuene Nagel are setting up in Yeovil I think…

There are a few companies based out of Hentsridge airfield.

Haha it is, someone pulled me up on this yesterday.

That’s good. From what I remember I would need to get myself a ‘quarry card’ for quarry work? Maybe time to get it.
