Woolpit

Question:
I’m wanting to post some pics of D C Ball and Michael Faiers trucks.
I know they wernt strictly Woolpit (sort of close at Newmarket).
Shall I add to this thread or start another: “Suffolk hauliers”?

Start another one…Innit

D C Ball came from Cambridge area i believe but Mick Faiers came from Lt Wheltenham nr Bury St Edmunds.6 miles from Woolpit

Mick Faiers used to work for Drakards as did Tony Everett whos Daf gets parked at Woolpit.

But Start a new thread anyway because they are always great.

Truckerash did any drivers get any sleep in that layby with your flash going off

Great pictures as always chaps. Incidentally - the GUY - is that parked up on the old closed off bit of the A45 at Tostock? When I were young, Brian Carberry lived in the village (now runs his own firm BJ&C Carberry of Stanton) he parked his miscellaneous Loadwells motors down the end of the village on the old A45 (the bit on the other side of the road to where HD’s yard is now.)

A lady who (I think) used to drive for Mitchell-Rowlands (green FIAT) also used to park up there, as did a couple of others.

Brian was a driver for Loadwells for quite a while I remember, he had a new F7 and before that a few other older motors.

By all means start another thread about Suffolk hauliers! I did one a year or 2 ago,

http://www.trucknetuk.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=17210&highlight=a45 which may be of interest.

How about Neville Riley, Wallace Houston, Michael Faiers (as mentioned by Stupot), there are loads more…

Its Tony Everrets Daf on far right of pic corcheela.

Kindle, you’re right, sorry.

Another one you might know about then - O/D I assume, runs one or two red toplines with no signwriting but silver stripes on the cabs, one’s a V8 I think, pulls IRF at times, parks up in Leggetts. Any ideas? One of the Scanias has a ‘CH’ prefix indicating a Welsh registration originally. No pics, I saw one of them at the pressure washer near the yard gate the other day. Really nice looking motors.

Stupot:
Could be Wrong but were R A Robinson from Woolpit area.

Bit of a mess this one but it looks like Ro Truck at Stowmarket

Ah! Robbo’s.

Yes he did run some very smart motors, and as Ash say’s,all left-hookers.
The Pearce twins,Ron & Peter, used to drive for Robinsons before coming to Goodway’s.And it ‘might’ have been Ron (now sadly deceased ten years) that tipped one on it’s side somewhere if I remember rightly.

Some DC Ball pics would be nice, always remember their well turned out Scania’s.From Newmarket weren’t they?

Michael Faeirs, now that’s another name that conjours up memories too.

Wallace Houston from Thurston, ran Scania’s for years on continental, then started buying F12’s.

Pics please

Cant think whos got the red Scanias, i will try to find out. I picked my dads photos up today, theres quite a few from when he worked for Carberrys, pics taken in Sweden Austria Germany etc, will put em up before i go back to work on Wednesday if i can.

My dad worked for Martin Minshall for a while in 1998, doing mainly H.C Wilson work, pics taken in France (Senlis area)

Kindle,
Where was Martin Minshall based, he’s often mentioned in the same breath as HCW, Mike Tasker etc, so assume it was Elmswell/Woolpit area??

The local Volvo dealer must have been selling a lot of F88’s that year,I’ve seen loads of pics of F88’s with that GPW—N number.

This is one I had for a short time…

And this one KW

And Trans UK had some that are on Toprun

How very true, this is one of them…

If i’m being pedantic about the ‘Woolpit-ness’ of the firms on this thread, then I have to point out that Drakards were actually based in Hartest, which is an even smaller village about 10 miles south of Bury St Edmunds, there used to be a garage by the bridge at the bottom of the hill. But I think they used the Loadwells yard, presumably because the location was closer to the main road.

Also, where in the village did Dowells have their yard?

Sorry for adding the photos of Drakards but you stated in the very first post about Drakards using the Woolpit site.
Technically they had bases at Hartest,Felixstowe,Gt Yeldham and Woolpit.

Hi I owned EPU300T bought it from an owner driver in Ipswich who was on fridgework with it, it was a very good truck mechanically but must have had a jinx as it skidded on black ice and slid into a ditch just before Frejus tunnel, I sold it on to another owner driver.

Here’s how it looked when I had it sorry for quality of pic but has been up on the wall of my office for years

Ithink that I may have had another Robinson Truck does anyone remember if this was one of his? ( We put the roof pod on to it!

Regards Pat

That B500 RDX was supposedly one of those that they recovered from the Herald, I went up to Ipswich to have a look at it in 89, it was red then with silver stripes, it looked ok, drove ok but when we checked it out it we were told of its history, nothing factual but a lot of people told us to avoid it, so steered well clear & bought a 1644 Merc instead, looks like that was a big mistake as that Merc was THE most unreliable lorry EVER, whereas the old Scania lasted well :sunglasses:

Minshallcame from Tostock, hes now living in Australia doing same kind of work he did over here, he doesnt drive now, just manages the office.
Red and silver truck belong to Charlie Buckle, hes just now moved his trucks to O.C Jewers yard.

have a photo of EPU302T but its right hand drive and its robinsons london?
