Yes, just came over it.

Yes, just came over it.

Surely its not that exciting…

grabs coat

I heard traffic ‘Lynne’ on the Ken Bruce show talking about this but she said it was a tanker of soya milk !

Just on my way over it now to Glossop.

Ken.

Some time ago we compared fuel consumption for maximum
weight loads of steel ingots (44 Tonnes GVW) moving from Sheffield
M1 Junction 34 to Haydock.

Woodhead versus M1/M62.

M1/M62 consumed less fuel and saved considerable gear + engine wear.

Woodhead is not always the best choice for HGV’s, especially bulk Drivers
who are just trying to milk it.

.

IIRC going the woodhead is roughly 12 miles shorter, even though I could do similar point to point routes 20mins quicker going via the motorway. But some drivers are paid on trip mileage, & have to go the shortest route Irrespective of the time it takes

Winter on Woodhead is a nightmare.

It’s also 40 mph for the most part.

The heart beats slower on the M62.

Good helicopter driving though.

it looks like the trailer has come un coupled from the unit.

The guy that was driving IS called Tony Clarke, The fifth wheel snapped clean in half, slamming the unit into the wall and leaving the trailer on its side.

Do bulkers not carry powdered milk?

Which part is not 40mph?

Er - the parts that are signposted as 30mph limits…?

Good point.

I thought Diesdotseldoforme was suggesting there are 50mph stretches over Woodhead. My mistake.

The 30 zones.

I know Woodhead like the back of my hand but, given the choice,
I prefer not to use it. I’ve been stuck in too many jams. At least
on the 62 there is usually an escape route.

I mentioned the maximum speed of 40 with regard to the comparison
between Woodhead and the 62. When doing a meaningful comparison it’s
only fair that the legal speed limit is observed.

Pity we can’t concrete over the old railway track for HGV’s and re-bore
the Woodhead rail tunnels.
