We had a couple of lady drivers working out of our quarry 15 or more years ago and they did the job as well as any of us, the surfacing gangs liked them as well back in the days when you were allowed to wear shorts! One married a local haulier and I still see her around occasionally, not sure what happened to the other but they brightened our days up. Surprised that there are not more around now that trucks are easier to handle, maybe they have more sense?
My observation is that drivers are middle age to their late fifties.White males.I do wonder why there are not many lady drivers.
Is it lack of places to wash at night ?

I’m not a driver but I work for a parcel company and I’m involved in the transport side, hence the reason I signed up here.
There’s a female driver for our Leeds depot who’s a better driver than most of the male drivers employed by the company.
Do you mean Diane ■■?
Usually got her head in a book whilst waiting on a bay at the Hub??

Yes, that and the hours, plus manual labour lugging heavy gear off trailers at store deliveries etc. If we did have more females drivers we might see job conditions & facilities get a bit better, I don’t think women would put up with some of the ■■■■ we do. If loads of female drivers started showing up at RDC’s I bet the waiting rooms would get better.
It is odd how i see cleaners busy cleaning inside the main buiding at Strensham Msa.In the food courts they give the impression to the public they are squeaky clean.
BUT, you go in the showers and they are disgusting.
Not cleaned for a year.
Dirt and debris in the floor corners.
Broken and dirty sinks.
No hooks to hang your clothes.
Black mould on the walls.
Dirty ceiling.
The chances are that you will come out dirtier after a shower and catch a disease.
Legionaires.!!!
You are better off washing with a hose pipe in the fuel station.

Cant get enough of them to be honest! Its in my blood! My dad and grandfather were traders, with a rather large company in the 80’s when i was a kid! And my mums side were into big plant, construction, building roads etc. I find people wierd that arent into them!
You like big engines?
Here’s a BIG engine!
Work in the rail industry so I see my fair share of em.
Talking of Kate’s…
Reminds me of a trip back from Italy when we were on for Merzario (Tivoli tpt) back in the 90’s, met a young lady called Kate pulling for a guy from Swindon who’d never pay more than £2k for a unit (allegedly). We were coming home at the top of Frejus, it was her first round trip and she was nervous about coming down a mountain on a national ( it was only motorway on the Italian side back then)
My mate (we were double manning) said don’t worry, follow us, if you get into trouble flash your lights run into the back of us and we’ll slow you down.
Alas on the way down we stripped the teeth off all the gears in 3rd on our somewhat dubious twin splitter, our brakes started to overheat and the truck all but ran away.
At the bottom she met up with us and had to do a trailer change with one if her company’s dafs that had spat half it’s pistons through the sump. We meanwhile changed our underwear.
Lovely lady though, very pleasant and very professional. I heard she was recently driving for Whites.
