Women HGV drivers... Tut...!

Dont Worry. and look on the bright side.

No, no, no. Don’t do that wide photos mess up the look of the boards with a need to use the horizontal scroll bar.

A nice looking 21yr old, female etc… No reason why they should be any better or worse than an older hand or of a different gender - as long as they don’t overplay the monthly bellyache card!

When anyone winds me up, I just think about them sitting on the lav taking a dump (or other private matters). It brings it all down to one level, and a smile to my face without getting wound up! We’re all hunter / gatherers, its just some people return from the hunt with that bit extra then don’t share (vote for Charlie Kennedy?)

Beat me to that one Neil, although my comment was going to be along the lines of requirements for 32" wide screen monitors  .

and i’m 32 and have just found a clump of grey hair amidst my red locks…

Run out of Tampax did we

I’ve no objection about female drivers, but why do they all have to pretend they’re all so tough

No thougher than you mate, no weaker either. (Save maybe in the handballing stakes, but we all hate that equally)

Allikat - driver of GMCs, Internationals, Volvos and others…
All I want for Xmas is a truck with a 13spd roadranger :stuck_out_tongue:

I must say all the lady drivers I have had the good fortune of working with have been first class drivers and willing to get in there and and get their hands dirty with the rest of them. One springs to mind who could put a truck into a space that a man of thirty odd years experience would baulk at. I suppose I have been lucky in not having met one of these trucking barbies yet

If someone can do the job all fine and dandy. It does get my goat when you get drivers (men and women) either complaining that they dont know or cant do something without even trying in most cases. You then end up doing the difficult jobs automatically without even a by your leave.

However Im all for women drivers, and there is more aorund (but you still notice just by the fact that they are women) + its good to actually socialise with women rarther than just the usual whinging you get from male drivers.

Yes I agree with women drivers. In fact I think we should give all women HGV licenses. They spend all day saying its a better life than sitting at home, and they all like big motors - all Landrovers are girly cars. So lets put them all on the road and we can stay at home with the kids having coffee mornings with all the bored housewives and waiting for deliveries from the delivery women drivers.
I can get to the pub without even going near a road, I would never need to see one again.

ianyng:
So what if she gets the night trunk?
Any muppet can drive on the motoway in a straight line! (unless you’re Jessicas Dad…)
Let her have it, and keep yourself entertained and well practised in the art of “proper truck driving”, by doing the harder stuff that involves reversing, driving through city centres, and running down John Prescott.

:smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: ouch that hurt :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

A great illustration of the old saying about the grass always being greener…and fair play to julian for having the nerve to post it!

Because they have blokes to compare to.

How many male nurses do you know that try / that much / harder to match to their female counterparts?!

I totally understand how Chrissie got a bit wound up on this one.
I think if some Barbie Doll came in with Owens and got straight into a nice FH12 and up the road without doing what I’ve done to get there I’d be a bit [zb] off too. In my first 3 months I drove crabby old FL10’s that were so bad you thought the wheels were square ! Whether my back was aching from the bumpy ride or strapping down coils of steel all day I never found out. I did so much local work I started to get the 5-roundabout-mania. Somehow I never had the same units but what was left in the yard that no one else wanted to drive, I got the [zb] wendy houses that never wanted to open and so on. I wash smudged in black grease within the first 10 mins of a working day (now it can take me up to several hours) and when I had my sannies in the cab it came with extra minerals …yuck !
I can’t say I really enjoyed it, - you see I’m not as tough as people might think. But I always knew it was something that I had to go through to get to the better jobs and better units. Almost a year down the line I’m finally going out in a nice FH12, my fav model, get the same unit and do the jobs I enjoy doing. Tramping with curtainsiders.
Unfortunately I think Chrissie have a good point. It’s seen not only in the haulage industry but in any matter, and I just hate it when a bit of female hip wriggling and innocent paint smudged eyes is used to scrounge for special treatment and favours. It does happen. Big time.
However I think you’re all right when you suggest that in the end of the day it’s Chrissie who’d recieve the most of respect from her fellow drivers and that when the novelty of the flashy babe wear off she might find she’ll have to earn her way to respect by doing any part of the job to the same standard as everyone else.

If it needs stars, that’s a clue it’s not allowed. L.

Well put Jo, you have to earn respect before you get respect, and all the hip wiggling and lippy doesn’t wash with most people, well, not after the first 5 minutes.
