Hi and welcome!

I did my Class 2 with EP and would certainly recommend them as a reliable and trustworthy outfit. I chose to go elsewhere for my class 1 as I wanted to do it in an artic. Their pass rates are very good as are their instructors.

Alternatively pop up to Pete’s place and do a residential course. (That was my second option).

As already said above, a driver is a driver, if you choose an industry such as foodservice delivery or multi-drop there is much more physical work involved. This is one of the reasons I am aiming to go into container work - lower amount of physical labour.

Most firms won’t care what ■■■ you are provided you have the credentials they need, turn up on time and get the job done.

Good luck with it all! I’m based in Pulborough if I can help you at all (sometimes it’s just nice to have a girl chat about it all)

seen 4 lady drivers just this year already. a big hauler with yellow lorrys has a class 1 lady driver who delivers to my place. shes the salt of the earth just gets on with the job with the greatest of easy and she’s in her early 60’s. puts the guys to shame relly. wish we could have her delivering to us every time. working life would be alot easyer and less unpleasant if she did.

dose’nt huff and tut and moan about everything and anything like all the male drivers do. nothings ever seems to be a problem for her ither. unlike seemly every male driver theses days who can’t even get out the cab anymore. any employer worth working with will have expiraced this the same way i have and be happy to give you a chance.

See a female driver most days driving for howdens pulling a 44ft trailer so id say go for it

Hi Pete - I apparently have to do the whole 35 hours CPC training since I passed my test in 1991 and have C1 entitlement on my licence. Does your quote include this? And is the price for 4 or 5 days practical training?

I missed this, otherwise I would have replied sooner.

Yes, all our full courses include driver cpc (Mods 2 and 4 or 35 hours as appropriate). In your case it’s 35 hours and some of that will come from the driving course.

Our courses are totally flexible as far as the number of days goes. But they are all based on 14 hours 1:1 tuition + test. Traditionally the courses were 20 hours but we have found that this becomes boring. New trucks and fully qualified trainers mean that learning is quicker.

Our prices also include free accommodation if you’re more than 70 miles away - which you clearly are.

The silly rates at Peterborough will increase from May 1st. But anyone paying their £150 deposit before then has got the rest of the year to actually do the course at the low rate.

Hope this helps and apologies for the slow response.

Pete

Oh and as an indication… first actual interview I went for I got the job so I wouldn’t worry too much about the female aspect holding you back!

Go for it!!

I don’t see what height has to do with it . I’m 5 10 and still can’t see over the top of a Decker :open_mouth:

Youve got more chance than a man, especially if the TM is a perv, slighlty ■■■■■■ me off a bit but use what ya got thats what i say

Hi Putput, I just put a 20 year old young lady on one of my 45-48 tonne GVM truck & dog trailer tipper outfits. I’ve taken her from car licence to what we call heavy combination or articulated vehicles. There was 5 weeks of intense one on one training, then gradually tapered this training to her going solo, she has turned out to be spectacular, she has natural ability with the equipment as well as a gist for paper work (or not letting a cent go by) and the customers love her. However every clown or flunky thinks because she drives a truck she should be chatted up or hit on. This young lady is the one who is highly trained and is sitting in the $250,000.00aus truck and trailer, doing complicated delivery tasks in the asphalt industry, these flunkies & clowns would never think of hitting on the receptionist or any of the office girls, but my little girl is fare game because she chooses to drive a truck, this is possibily going to driving her away from an industry she loves.

If your 41 years young and your equipment & communication skills are up to speed go for it, road transport is all ways going to be tough, there will be some intolerable people, but you will come across some of the best people, or salt of the earth. If you can suss this out it will be a worth wile venture,
good luck, Phil. South Australia
