Woman ‘thrown 30ft’ in crash on M6 near Castle Bromwich

A woman was thrown about 30ft (9m) during a two-car collision on the M6.
The woman, in her 20s, suffered serious back and neck injuries which were not thought to be life threatening, the ambulance service said.
Two other women in the car were also hurt in the crash which happened on the northbound carriageway of the M6, near Castle Bromwich, at about 07:50 GMT.
The driver of the second car suffered minor chest injuries. The M6 was shut between junctions five and six.
The Highways Agency said it was unlikely to reopen until Sunday afternoon.
“Despite one of the women having suffered serious injuries, all three are incredibly lucky not to have suffered life-threatening injuries given the nature of the collision,” a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said.
“The emergency services worked extremely well together at the incident with particular thanks going to the fire service for their assistance in treating two of the patients.”
The ambulance service added that during the collision, the car’s engine was believed to have been thrown about 490ft (150m).
All four people were treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.
