Woman hit by motorway lorry dies

A woman has died after she was hit by a lorry on the M62 in Cheshire.

An inquiry is under way to establish why the woman, believed to be in her 40s, was on the carriageway. A car was found nearby on the hard shoulder.

The collision happened on the westbound carriageway between junction 11 at Birchwood and junction 12 for Eccles Interchange on Tuesday afternoon.

Initial closures on the carriageway have caused tailbacks on the M62, M60 and M602 motorways.

Motorists are being advised to find alternative routes or prepare for a longer journey.

An air ambulance landed on the motorway to allow paramedics to treat the victim, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The lorry driver was uninjured in the collision but was left extremely shaken, Cheshire Police said.

For those delayed today this is why. :exclamation:

Firstly thoughts for the woman, her family and the poor trucker involved. :frowning:

As for the circumstances I’ll say no more

What annoys me is the headline "Woman hit by motorway lorry dies "

Firstly, what is a motorway lorry  When I drove a truck they could use all sorts of roads :imp:

Secondly, is it just me or does the headline scream “bloody lorries again” :imp:

i agree the story does imply that the woman was standing innocently on the carriageway and was hit by a truck which had no right to be there.
Everyone knows if you break down on a motorway you should stand as far from the carriageway as possible.

To be honest I think you’re being over sensitive m8, the poor woman was hit by a lorry on a motorway, what should the headlines say ?

I don’t see any victimisation of lorry drivers in what you’ve posted, I haven’t seen the full story but from what you’ve posted it seems perfectly reasonable to me, but maybe I’m missing something who knows.

edit: The BBC Story
Still seems reasonable enough to me.

To be honest this situation is down to lack of education. To see the way the general public act I am surprised it doesn’t happen more often.
The media will always go for the soft target in this instance the lorry not giving a thought to the drivers feelings.
Sorry rant over

until a full investigation is complete the facts can’t be known but at this stage a woman died in a collision with a truck. Saying she was hit by a truck implies blame on the truck.
Whatever. it’s a tragedy for all concerned. It puts things in perspective when you’re waiting for hours to get past a serious accident.

I thought saying she was hit by a truck meant she was hit by a truck.Don’t see any implication in that.

Only if ‘Woman hit by Truck’ screams bloody women again.

The pedestrian was female and the vehicle was an LGV so sadly this incident has taken place.
My thoughts are with the lady’s family and also the driver of the vehicle who must be in terrible shock.

there must be more to it that this though.
Was she on the hard shoulder - and if so what was the truck doing to hit her?

Was she on the carriageway - and if so what the hell was she doing leaving the (comparative) safety of the hard shoulder?

“Pedestrian killed on motorway?”

I agree with the OP, the use of the ‘lorry’ word is always used in a negative context. What relevance does it have to the headline as to what type of vehicle struck her? It gives the same negativity as does Sally Traffic, when she always mentions when a lorry is involved in a hold up but never mentions any other type of vehicle. As result, on the car forums that i waste my time on the most, you always get the complaint “every morning you ear about all the chaos caused by lorries”.

Basically, its discrimination. You’re not allowed to mention the colour of the skin of people who hold m’ways up because it has no relevance. What relevance does the occupation have of those who are holding up the m’ways?

Easy to answer that one Mixermerc. Truck drivers have a bigger chip on their shoulder than any gender or colour group.

With a friend of mine of Weds night who was a colleague of the lady that died. Apparently she was a teacher and under a lot of stress at the time with the various targets etc that teachers go through these days. Don’t know officially that it was suicide, but it seems that she had stepped from the hard shoulder onto the motorway. Make of that what you will.

No job is ever worth getting that upset over.

HUMAN BEING OF NO FIXED GENDER OR RACIAL MAKE_UP, STRUCK BY POSSIBLY MOVING VEHICLE BIGGER THAN A CAR /VAN BUT NOT AS BIG AS A TRAIN,SHIP or AIRCRAFT SOMEWHERE ON THE UK’s MOTORWAY SYSTEM.

There everyone should be happy now!! unless of course you don’t want to be happy its your choice

RIP the woman and hope the driver gets over the shock of such a horrific event

Come -on people read…In the second paragragh…it makes a clear distinction between the woman being on the carriageway and the hard shoulder where a car was found…Telling us she was in an area where we all know you shouldn’t be…

If it had been a cop car that hit here…motorcycle…fire engine…whatever…the report would have said…exactly that…Would anyone be complaining then■■?.. a lorry is no exception

Lorries were not in anyway presented in a bad way…in this particular report…the driver was presented asquite innnocent…

Do you not feel that “cops” are unfairly represented at times.

e.g.

“Two die whilst being chased by Police”

The fact that the “Two” were little scrotes that were of no advantage to the human race is not an issue it would seem. :exclamation:

Maybe it should be…

“Two criminals lose thier own lives because they would not stop for Police” :bulb:

If, and it is still an if, this poor lady (god rest her soul) did commit suicide, it is my experience that people will choose a lorry.

Therefore my point is, if it was a car would the headline not have been…

“Women killed on motorway” or “Woman run over on motorway”

No mention of the type of vehicle :imp:
