Witnessing Minor Collisions

I saw a minor bump on the M40 this afternoon, and noticed two cars pulling onto hard shoulder (presumably witnesses). Talking to my drivers’ mate, we both agreed we’d never stop on a motorway just to act as a witness, unless the collision was serious etc.
What does everyone else do? Carry on and mind your own, or stop? Not talking serious accidents just nudges, scrapes etc.

I carry on & mind my own business, if it was me it happened to nobody would stop to help…:exclamation:

here here pimpdaddy

Depends, if I saw someone being a complete ■■■■ and causing a bump I would offer my statement.

I witnessed a cyclist getting knocked off his bike yesterday. I stopped, helped remove him from the hedge and was prepared to be a witness, but he wasn’t bothered.

What if one of the drivers involved likes to listen to a good moan about what a ball-ache delivering bags of flour is?

Or if it was a 8 wheel tipper with a frilly pelmet a tastles

Depends, if safe to do so i’ll stop and offer my name and address to an interested party, especially if its an out and out one way fault accident.

Received a very nice note afterwards from a private hire owner/driver years ago when i witnessed an accident running into Gatwick, bloke in the middle lane stopped almost dead and turned right straight (probably going into the Hilton) into the side of the Merc taxi, Mondeo driver immediatly jumped out and started having an aggressive go at the Merc driver, so i pulled up just down the road walked back and calmly handed a slip of paper with my name and address on it to the Merc driver, Mondy driver didn’t like it, sod him…in due course i filled in a witness form for the Mercs insurer which cliched the allocation of blame.

Just because its currently fashionable to not care a ■■■■ any more doesn’t mean we all have to come down to that level.

Hope I have the presence of mind to remember this if needs be.
Well done Ian.

Well said.

Be very careful stopping and helping as you may end up getting the blame like my cousin got when he stopped and helped a cyclist whom had run out of road. Only thing that helped him was a good soliciter provided by his insurance company and roadhawk footage. The good samariton nowadays has to be very careful. Remember wheres theres blame theres a claim

Yes - If I had good reason to suspect the injured / innocent party was an attractive female I would stop even if it was a female cyclist.
Audi vs BMW shenanigans never the buggers would club together and try and make it my fault. I would be tempted to add to their injuries though

Just think of that sweaty mott box, no thank you! I don’t do sea food!

i was sitting in traffic in the strand one morning, when a mini cab in front of me did a u turn, knocked a bloke off his motorbike, and the ■■■■■■■ had a look out of his side window and drove off!!
i got out and made sure the rider was ok(just a bit shocked i think, but thats not the point.mr minicab could have seriously hurt him for all he knew, but still buggered off!!).i wrote my name and address on the back of a tacho chart and said i’d be a witness.not one other person bothered to stop/help.
i got a letter from the bike riders insurance co and filled in a witness report thing, then got a letter from cps asking if i would be willing to testify about what had happened as minicab man was getting done for it.i would have gladly gone to court but he admitted it before it got that far.
hope he lost his bloody licence(if he even had one)-it wasnt the accident, that could happen to anyone,it was the way he looked at the bike rider on the ground(and he deffo saw him laying on the floor) and just drove off.■■■■■■.

In the above case, I’d stop. Silly rear ends, broken wing mirrors I can’t be arsed with. Unless serious, no way will I stop on a motorway (why end up 6 feet under because someone acts daft?)

I did the same a few months ago. I was turning left off a dual carriageway, and a woman was waiting to pull out of the road I’m turning into, to cross the carriageway and turn right to go the other way. She went for it and straight into the path of a mini which was overtaking me. I could see it all happening before it happened, and no amount of horn blasting got her attention. Luckily this was a dual carriageway on an industrial estate with a 30mph limit so the speeds were low.

I pulled up and strolled back and handed my details to the mini driver. I then asked the woman if she heard my horn? Yes she said, I thought you were telling me I could go!

A few days later I get an insurance form thru the post asking for my witness statement. I filled it in and sent it back. Not heard a thing since.

I was knocked off my motorbike back in March (multiple busted ribs, collapsed lung, dislocated shoulder, resulting in several weeks off work - plus of course significant damage to bike and kit). I was in no shape to go collecting witness details from any of the half-dozen or so drivers who were at the scene when it happened, as I was scraped up into an ambulance and carted off to hospital. According to police who attended, there were no witnesses so it’s down to my/the ■■■■■■■ car driver’s insurers to argue liability.

I wouldn’t bother for an obvious “fender bender” type collision, but if I thought there was significant injury I’d defintely stop and give my details.
