Windscreen curtains legal or not?

bigtruck:
I suspect you had them pulled half a cross your side windows so everybody could see your frilly bits!

Next you will be learning how to do the hideous jam hand wave!!!

Frankydobo:
The view must not be obstructed by any changes to the original design, such as the addition of stickers, pennants, cab decorations, stone guards or other items which encroach more than 40mm into the swept area. Only official stickers are allowed into the 40mm area if necessary to comply with other regulations. Three zones to windscreen, A = 350mm in the swept area centered on the centre of the wheel (or 175mm either side of wheel centre). B = swept area. C = remainder of screen not covered by A or B. You would need to measure to see if your curtains encroach the swept area but why the hell you want something flapping about infront of your face beats me!
Franky.

Perfect answer but … ‘Drivers’ Aids’ such as sun blinds are OK. External or internal. Most would count the frilly tassles along the top of the windscreen as a sun blind.

However - what gets me with these things is drivers usually say they take them out for MOT - which would indicate they know they would fail the MOT and vehicles must be to MOT standards at all times - therefore illegal.

Apart from that, as already said, unless you own the wagon what are you doing sticking curtains in it? If you stayed in a B&B would you decorate it? :unamused:

Some truck interiors look like a gypsys’ wedding dress.

NathanB:
A TNUK member and workmate of mine fitted frilly curtains, chrome mirror guards, chrome wheeltrims, spotlights etc to his wagon and md went ape and said the lights had to come off. Said driver then fitted blue leds to his grille. Guess what? Was told to take them off.

The moral of the story is to ask first. My old boss would never have allowed that and he used to say “The inside is yours, the outside is mine” which is reasonable. I would adopt the same approach. If I was doing a an exhibition or roadshow job for a serious blue-chip company then I wouldn’t send along a vehicle which looked like a gippo caravan.

The MDs’ late father hated anything that made his lorries “look like fairground wagons”. Nameplates in the window, curtains, cuddly toys and cbs were all a no no.

i have non standard curtains in my truck (and no they don’t come half way cross my side windows) but do have a pelmet across the front only ever take it out for m.o.t. :frowning: :frowning:

when i have been pull for a roadside check nothing has ever been said about it so can’t see it would be illegal or i would have been told to take the pelmet out and that has never happened. there again never been told to take my dash table out either, so i must be very lucky and been pulled by the sensible side of vosa. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

but then i am always polite and have a laugh with them and don’t give them any attitude so thats why i possibly get away with it :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

Are you having a laugh,pelmet??

to be quite honest i couldn’t give a rats ass of what people thought about my truck, we are allowed to do what we like to them, now my current on is due for change this year so i ain’t doing anything to it, but when i get my new one i will have the extra’s fitted that i want and the boss pays so it ain’t no skin off my nose, this is the last one that they did :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

I’m not aiming this at you, but the pic just made me think. Why do people put 620 Topline or whatever, on trucks? Surely if you have an interest you’ll already know and if you’re not interested you won’t care anyway.

i would rather the money went in my pay packet and have a standard truck

i think it goes back to when scania first brought out the topliner they came with the graphics on, and then people just carried it on once they stopped putting them on, ours are all detailed the same just the newest one has the air brushing where as the slightly older ones don’t, but that was more of a one off as it was the first one that was bought brand new, and the others were a couple of years old

Trucker8oy:
Hello, ive bought my self a set of curtains for my unit, ive put them up and i had to take them down because ive been told that they are ILLEGAL !!! The bloke in the garage went ape when he saw them. I said to him what about the other trucks around the UK are they all illegal he said i dont give a ■■■ because theyre illegal. So im confused now. Are you allowed to have them or not? Thank you in advance

If you wish to drive around in a Moroccan hashish house that’s up to you, 99.9999999000000% of other drivers think it looks totally ridiculous but it’s a free country (just)
I’m sure you could find better ways to spend on tools for the job. always gives me a laugh roadking.co.uk/truck-curtain … elvet.html

Yeah, could be I s’pose. Don’t get me wrong, each to their own and all that.

The only one that really annoys me is that poxy “intercooler” sticker that’s been going for ever. I feel like getting one made in the same script that says “doors” or “heater”

Depends on what you define as “good money” and how many hours you do to get it imo.
