Window/mirror scratches

The mirrors and side windows of my truck have surface scratches (swirling) damage. These are no problem in the day but when there is glare from sunlight or driving in the dark you can really see these swirls.

I’ve read on the Internet that toothpaste can help fix this issue. Has anybody experience of using this method to remove the swirls?

Also if you do, could you explain the best application method (eg. Smear toothpaste on and leave to dry or using damp towel).

Sensible answers appreciated.

must be a cool day use colgate toothpaste and you rub in with brown paper , let it dry then buff glass lightly with a cloth

iv only done it on fairly deep scratches the sort you can feel just about with your nail ,and what was weird is that afterwards i could still see the scratches but a week later they had gone! im guessing that the silica in the toothpaste levels out into a flat surface over a few days, thats my guess

Toothpaste is a fine abrasive just like t cut and that very fine scratch removing compound.

I’ll give it a go. They’re light scratches so hopefully will do the trick

I’ve heard best thing for scratches on glass is jewellers rouge. Never tried it but would imagine similar to T-cut, toothpaste etc.

swirl x from meguiars is decent on paint for swirling not sure on mirrors though.

I’ll try it today or tomorrow. I’m going to buff some on, leave to stand for a few mins and then wipe away and see what happen s

let us know how you get on as my car lights have the same swirling

ned there is a product that renovates headlights ( gets rid of discolour the works).

but can I hell think of it… will rack my brains overnight and update

As mentioned Jeweller’s rouge is what I’ve always used. Need to be careful there’s not some stick on tint with some surfaces.

thanks war
own account where can you get that jewellers rouge i never heard of it before and whats best way to apply it

It comes in a powder and I’m sure it will be on ebay. I mix with meths and use a microfibre cloth but there’s lots of varying opinions on how to apply. I would google any specific application though. I’m pretty sure that a lot of the headlamp unit restoration kits will be something similar.

thanks own account just found it on ebay
