Wind!!

i was cabbing it on the overnight belfast/birkenhead boat a few years ago instead of going up to the cabin.the boat took 3 hours longer than normal to do the crossing because of the wind and had to hide round the back of the isle of man for a while due to the severity of the weather…i was next to a trailer at the side and quite enjoying the rocky ride as it was banging the cab about rightly and i quite like being snuggled in the cab when its bad weather outside.,at one point there was an almighty bang, and the cab went mental, when i peeked out,the trailer that was next to me,had been blown over the edge of the ship and was hanging over the side…interesting night :open_mouth:

Jesus. I don’t envy you boys on those ferries on days like this.

but the lorry in front of me who carried on past M62 J36 and over the Ouse Bridge, despite being informed not to, You’re a complete moron.

but then he / she must have made it … how many times have you been above the speed limit or done anything not 100% legal

I’ll hold my hands up and say I’ve done plenty of things I shouldn’t have, usually due to inexperience. But our job is dangerous enough, why take additional risks for the sake of a ten minute detour?

sit down, shut up,puke up…you know its going to be rough when the ships bouncing up and down when its still ■■■■■■■,and the chef tells you to shovel your grub down before the boat hits the top of the loch unless we want to be eating it off of the floor.,personally i love it,best when kipping in the truck even for a cpl hours crossing when its banging its brains out.ive been on the boat a few times when weve had to wait for ages before they can put the ramp down due to the boat bouncing after its berthed and ■■■■■■■…all adds to the fun…

a nice touch is to fill your sick bag with something out of the truckies lounge and sit eating it with a fork with the passengers watching.

I’ve a load tonight from a1 Newark to Edinburgh. Do you think the winds would have dropped enough for the a66?

If not, what would be a recommended detour please?

Youuse the A66 to get to Edinburgh? Why? You could go all the way up the A1 but it is very exposed north of Berwick. You could use the A68 too but it’s a bit of a PITA if fully loaded (great fun empty though) you can also come off the A1 just north of Morpeth and take the Wooler road. Again, can be a PITA, but definitely more sheltered from the wind.

Usually a1 a66 m74 etc

Boss recommends the route.

Is that your choice, or are you routed by your company? Not having a go by the way, it just seems slightly bizzare given that you are on the side of the A1 at Newark and the A1 goes right to Edinburgh.

Edit to add; just seen your bit about boss recommending. Well it’s his train set I suppose, so he can suggest anything.

Boss chose it but as it’s quite windy right now I though I’d ask… Is the Wooler Road a single or dual? What’s it like?

Horses for courses mate, Wooler road is single and can be challenging in places, generally quiet though (especially at nights) it’s also shed loads shorter than your usual route and also a bit shorter than the A1 which kinda takes a big loop out to follow the coast. You’ll probably make better progress on the A1 tbh as there are quite a few d/c sections to enable you to pass “those who are taking your safety seriously”

I drive down both the east and west from scotland on a weekly basis and if I’m delivering down the east I’ll choose A1 every time
A66 and m74 will add about 50 mile to journey plus you run the risk of snow on 74 tônight between Lockerbie and cairn lodge.

A1 is a decent road, just watch the speed cameras, if you really want to go up 74 you could take 69 at hexam. That’s ok even if its windy

Newark to Edinburgh would be A1, A66, M6, M74, M8.
If the A66 is closed then I would go A1, A697, A68.
never go all the way up to Edinburgh on the A1.
The difference in time going across the A66 compared to the A1 is 1 minute.

Wooler road is single and sheltered just been from Darlo to Newcastle though and 2 over between the Aycliffe and Chester le Street one a standard curtainsider, not a git high one. The other a rigid which was clean off the road and on it’s side. Both heading South bound mind.

Just poodled along at 40 with no probs, good job it wasn’t tomorrow as I’d have to have done 50 and hoped for the best.

Why’s tomorrow different to today if windy ?

Poodled at 47 today on A1 through the bloody snow!

Was a bit windy I seem to recall as well. Global warming my A***!

Go faster stripes don’t get fitted till 6th April[emoji1]

I’m grateful for the wind, it’s helping dry the muck in our yard and making soil screening much easier.
