Will you get back into the cab in the New Year?

The house is full of festive treats at the moment. Mince pies, cakes, biscuits, chocolates, cheese selections, home made trifle and that’s without even opening the goodies that will inevitably be in the presents tomorrow.

Every Christmas I can remember, I put on half a stone over this period, which I then crash diet in the New Year, to lose it within a couple of weeks.

Was wondering if you other guys also suffer from over indulgence at this time of the year and how long it takes you to lose the extra calories, so you can haul your asses back up into those high cabs in the New Year. :sunglasses:

Yep as even though I will pig out I’m doing my kitchen over the next week so plenty of exercise

just as a side thought; Over the past 20 or 30 years cab sizes have doubled or trebled in size … has this development been led by the ever increasing size of the drivers?

I hate the first week back after xmas and all that food. The last few years have meant the same thing. Inspection hatches up in a 50 year old underfloor engine coach and lie on the fat belly (gently rocking backwards and forwards!) as I have a dekko at the oily bits. Then I have to try and squeeze underneath - breathe in and hold your breath.

Half cab deckers aren’t the easiest of things to get in and out of either.

Not really, you look at drivers who do the jobs that aren’t know for a lot of physical effort required compared to some that do, both drivers could be driving the same cab. My Grandad used to deliver bricks and timber into London and that was all handball, now everything is on pallets and crane lifted off.

On the first days back its hard work getting back into going to bed early to get up at 3 ,1600 hrs feels late ,it’s the only time of yr I think about a career change .

Nope I won’t … Its July 2017 when my 5 year medical ban expires.
And then it will then mean doing the sodding Dcpc if I can be bothered and getting a nice new shiny digi card .
And it would have to be Agency for a couple of 8 hour days a week max as I could not be bothered living in a tin box Again full time.

After trying to retire for the last 2yrs I’ve given up and expect to be driving for a long time yet. Next shift is 31st 03:00 then start back again on my regular 02:30 slot 5th Jan until I’m needed to cart silage in May.

If UK Agriculture doesn’t pick up I’m going to sell all the tractors/machinery then join the darkside and go full-time :open_mouth: still waiting for invoices to be paid from work we did back in August :imp:

As to physically being able to get in the cab, nae bother, though I’ll take the dogs for longer walks for the next few days just because I’ve got the time and it isn’t pi55ing down

Has anyone been busted by VOSA for the following?

Gross Weight on Weighbridge - 43,997kg
Weight allowance for driver in cab: 120kg.

Actual driver weight 143kg - putting him slightly over the entire limit. :smiling_imp:

I bet you could get on discrimination grounds for that.

It’s the reason why I can’t take my Mrs out with me. We get paid by the weight of the load
