Will this be us all soon?

Dogmatix:
I wear my hard hat opening the curtains in strong winds, as I have been hit by a clip and it [zb] hurts.

Wuss.

Ken.

I go to many different places in the course of a week and rarely am I ever asked to put safety gear on. No wonder people have no respect for us when we dont even have respect ourselfs.

Anyone been to Cemex just off aston church road? Went in there recently for a load of concrete railway sleepers and got talking to the driver behind me who asked if i had orange safety wear, when i said no he told me to go and speak to the office staff who informed me that i needed a long sleeved hi vis, hi vis trousers, safety hat, gloves, goggles and proper steel toe cap boots (not riggers) and without these i would not be allowed on site. They phoned my boss and told him about the situation. In the end i had to uncouple the unit and travel round Birmingham to purchase the silly bright orange uniform! Health and safety is ridiculous…wasted about an hour and half of my shift.

A hard hat is good to keep the rain off ,it is the hiviz in the cafe that worries me, if the food is that bad, should they really be selling it?

MADBAZ:
I have a bump cap and it’s even taken the brunt of a couple of knocks from the poles (they bloody hurt when they get you).

Yeah coming over here with their work ethics… and violent too

Anyone ever delivered to homebase? You have to stand in a green square in the corner!!

ahahahahaa    lol

What has happened to elf and safety is this:

15 years ago when I worked for Wincanton, the Health and Safety guy there asked me after I had been asked to supply life vest to drivers delivering to the docks (shop stewards request - I kid you not!!). How many guys had fell in the water - never i replied, ok how many ship side deliveries do you make in a week, around 30 -40 I reply, he goes quiet for a second then says the liklehood of driver falling in is about 0 in 2000 in a year - so no action required. The problem now is it does not matter how unlikly it is that something will happen you got to prevent from happing - plus you can’t legislate for d***kheads

Companies are terrifed of "where’s there blame - there is claim type " laywers - who know it will cost a company £000’s to defend the claim so they settle out of court first, also no one wants bad publicity - to be seen not giving a hoot about employees safety.

Also a lot of jobs worths make a VERY nice living out of inventing this crap and have to keep inventing it or they will be out of a job

My two pence worth

Pretty much hit the nail on the head there.

ive evern had the manufacture dates checked on a hard hat :open_mouth:

Blunder Man:
I went to Morrisons in Bradford 6 months ago with a trailer of flowers (Visbeen), having parked up I wanted a pee, I was told that us animal like drivers could not use the one civilised people used and I had to go to the security hut, where the animals could pee, on coming back I noticed on the lights on the level crossing were little tubes with sticks about 1’ long with triangular bits of cut up hi-viz vests, on asking a Morrisons driver what they were for he told me that people using the crossing were supposed to pick one up and wave it as they walked across the crossing.

Fantastic dont you just love this country.

safety glasses and hardhat before they let you through the gates at tata cardiff

I’ve heard of a couple of drivers who have lost an eye when a strap has broken…and if you lose an eye that’s your LGV licence gone.

When i worked for a engineering firm a couple of years ago we were told to wear a full safety harness to go up a step ladder. fine I thought, ■■■■■■■■ but il do it to keep them happy and get the job done.

So I don the harness and the health and safety bloke is there watching and helped me get it on (first time I had used one and he went and fetched it for me) so I’m there ready and asked the acceptable question of ‘where do I attach it to?’

And the reply I got was… NOWHERE!

They wanted a full harness wearing on a step ladder over 3 ft high but the harness doesn’t get attached to anything, so it basically is getting in the way and pointless.

That my friends so ■■■■■■■ madness!

I can dry a hard hat quicker than my hair and on windy days it stops the curtain hooks hitting my head, it also keeps my hair in place, what’s left of it.

put my hard hat on like a good boy down swansea docks then the wind came and blew it away into the sea, probably near dublin now,if found would appreciate it,s return ,cos i bought it myself…

Yeah, I’ve heard of a couple of pedestrians who’ve been knocked over crossing the road.

When oh when are we gonna tackle this madness?

Therefore ALL pedestrians should be made to wear the full kit, and their pet dogs as well, and children…

My uncle broke his jaw with a curtain pole in the wind when he worked with malcolms.

When you get all the ■■■■■■■■ ask them how many accidents they’ve had in the last year. Normally they will have had a fair few. Then I tell them (in my case anyway), I’ve had none, so my elf and safety procedures are obviously better than theirs - so I’ll do it my way - as it clearly works better than their way!!!

They usually then revert to the ‘company policy’ argument which is fundamentally not health and safety…and is entirely down to a muppet and the risk of being sued. :grimacing:
