Hoping to pass mod 4 soon, but would like to as U pros out there would I need to purchase a sat nah or would lorry be fitted with one…class 2 by the way. Thankyou
Very unlikely the truck will be fitted with one.But you should definitely buy a truckers atlas. To compliment the sat nav As for them. You can pay as little or as mych as you want.Do a search on here.As it’s been done to death.

depends on the company … Our place wont allow drivers to use their own S N’s but we have a number of truck ones in the office that have the drops pre programed and checked for route’s by other drivers

Very few companies fit their trucks with sat-navs. I’ve only seen seen one (Eezehaul in Crawley). You’ll need to get a proper HGV sat-nav or you’ll get directed under low bridges or down narrow lanes.

Not if you use your Mark One eyeball & apply common sense
oh sorry men dont have common sense
A good truck atlas you dont need a sat nave but they can help some people are downloading maps onto there phones now so can do that if you wish instead
A satnav is a worthwhile investment. They aren’t perfect but its much better than stopping every 20 minutes to see if you are going in the right direction.

As Radar says its a worthwhile investment. Buying a truck nav will take some of the pressure off trying to find where your going and allow you more time to focus on your driving. *please note that you shouldn’t trust any sat nav 100% and should always back it up with a good LGV map
A good LGV map is as vulnerable to data errors as a satnav system I would think. Eyes and common sense are the best investment of all.
That said, a truck-aware satnav system will put you in a good starting position as it will calculate routes avoiding the limitations of weight, height restrictions etc that it knows about. You are therefore far less likely to encounter an unexpected blockage en route, but that is not to say it won’t happen. If it does, I guess the answer is to make sure you have different data sources available. That might be a paper based truckers’ map, but maybe a different truck satnav as a backup could be equally useful? As long as the data comes from different sources you are more likely to be able to continue on your way using the other data.
I use a Tomtom Truck 5150 as my primary routing system, but I do carry truck-aware mapping data from CoPilot and Sygic on a tablet as backup since it is more portable than paper maps. If Tomtom lets me down (which it hasn’t yet) I’m still in with a chance using one of the other systems to find a way through.
I do find that the confidence I get from knowing the satnav is truck-aware takes a good deal of the stress out of navigating. Even when I go wrong I am reasonably assured that a correcting route is unlikely to take me into restricted roads.
