Will a robot take your job?

If it ever came about would the ones used for supermarkets be bone idle and incompetent, could you program them to miss the pin on brand new units, or hit the nearside step off, or fall asleep with the headlights on and flatten the batteries?

Would the fire brigade have to rescue it from the top of a busted tail lift? , we need to know the answers, how would the fitters and repair shops feel about competent drivers they would be out of a job.

haha bloody brilliant Mike.

Robotising is donkeys years away, the hype is like all other hype, to sell copy and keep people in non jobs doing bugger all for as long as possible.

You can always keep one step ahead whatever happens, just specialise, i’m yet to see the robot that can put 11 cars on a lorry, tie em down, adjust for heights and terrain likely, then deliver the sods to umpteen dealerships, it aint going to happen, they can’t even get trunking right (using untrained/untrainable to steer and nothing else) cos they fall over too easy…high paying job for life once mastered…there’s loads of jobs far too complicated to automate.

One thing i would always say though, never be too quick nor too clever by half when the company try to install technology/monitoring, you don’t willingly load nor aim the gun the supplied to shoot you with if you have any sense.

Going off that little old list, maybe why they’d prefer all out robotics. Average gear changer robot currently fitted in a DAF has a higher IQ than you see in an RDC.

Yeh, one made in Romania most likely.

Tris:

At least all the UK robots will have some other robot to winge about on

Truckbot.com

Feel sorry for those programmed for agency; their bed’s made before the poor sods have started. Will be the ones with buggered chips or something, wonky hydraulic legs etc.

The agencybots will be a cheaper model, more prone to malfunction, and kitted out in reebok classics and 3/4 shorts.

Exactly, retro-mobile-worker-bot.

Talking RDCs, I bet you there’s still one bloody Robot yacking on in the corner, boring the titanium ■■■■ off the others about how he used to be a T1000 and nearly got John Conor, yadda yadda…
