i think they should be limited when loaded with 4 metre wide caravans to 85 ks
there a menace when they try to overtake …why dont they move away from vehicles on the hard shoulder is it brave or stupid
Your right hitch, they can be a menace. I agree that they should be limited to 85kph but I think they should also be categorised under special types, perhaps in a category of their own and limited in where and when they can overtake.
As for moving out when passing an obstruction on a hard shoulder, I guess its a drivers call as moving out may cause further problems on lane 2 and 3. Like all other driving its a constant risk assessment.
i do a lot of wide loads as running the over hang on the hard shoulder are you for real, what if you come up against a broken down car ,lorry, what happens then you can,t exactly swerve into lane 2 as you can,t see whats coming past you. most of the time some wagons get their cab past your cab and start to come over weather they have past or not and the police rather you take lane 1&2 and keep the hard shoulder clear in case of any obstructions, as for overtaking, its a no no for me same as before if i can,t see whats coming past how do i no if im cutting some one short by pulling out then take lanes 2&3,then get called all the (zbs) under sun,so what don,t get done today will get done tommorow
innit:
so what don,t get done today will get done tommorow
tell my boss that will you m8
I also deal in heavy haulage, with 99% of abnormal loads, you have to have a movement order, specifing your route, which is agreed by all the Police Forces you pass through. It will also specify the maximum speeds on motorways, A roads etc. This is dependant on gross weight, width, length etc.
As for the hard shoulder, I run over it, leaving lane 2 clear, but with advanced observation and the correct indications, will move out to pass any stranded vehicle and on A roads, the same applies for laybys.
The problem tends to lie with other drivers, who have this mental image, that they must get past an abnormal load at all costs, regardless of my indications.
With these types of loads, not only do you have to concentrate on your own driving but all the others around you.

I run over it, leaving lane 2 clear, but with advanced observation and the correct indications, agree there cornish depending on the width ,not only do you have to concentrate on your own driving but all the others around you. damed right there brother
