Looks to me the bus is to blame must be at least 2 feet from the kerb before the road narrows so he could have pulled over rather than cause such chaos.
Photographer states “lorry disputing right of passage with a London Bus”
As a result and only hours later after the incident lorries have now been banned from using Tufnell Park Road! islingtongazette.co.uk/news/ … _1_4754449 That didn’t take the council long!
Bus driver just being dammed awkward, then calls his office round the corner and soon gets back up from wasters who want to shake there heads and put there hands in there pockets. Meanwhile the poor wagon driver along way from home on his own is chastised by all.
Diverting all the A1 traffic down there was a pretty stupid decision in the first place.
Islington’s transport chief Cllr Claudia Webbe said: “While there is no doubt TfL got this disastrously wrong with such a short-notice closure of this major road, we have been pushing them hard ever since to get this next stage right.
“The prospect of funnelling the A1 through a residential street like Tufnell Park Road is unacceptable, so we have insisted on alternative diversions and signs advising motorists from outer London and beyond to avoid the area altogether.”

Difficult to see how traffic could avoid that whole area given that all the alternative routes that are anywhere near the A1 now have 7.5T weight limits on them. The A41 is the nearest alternative but even so, it takes you nearer the West End, meaning that if you need the City, you’ll have to drive through Euston. That said, the single-carriageway bit of Archway Road (the bit of the A1 north of Archway, bypassing Highgate) is always a nightmare, and even more so now that there is a bus lane and a single lane for all other traffic that’s not wide enough for a large vehicle and anything else to pass. It’s actually worse than Holloway Road was before they started these roadworks.
Socketset:
Bus drivers aren’t allowed to drive backwards - or so I’ve heard.
Certainly I’ve had quite a few situations where they will just sit and gaze at you until you shift up to let them pass.
This is often trotted out by awkward bus drivers as truth, or not allowed to reverse with passengers on, as a variation.
As with all these sort of things, it’s total and utter bull shine…
How do I know? I used to be an awkward bus driver.

Is this taught at bus driver training school, along with how to pull into a bus stop while always leaving the tail end protruding a couple of feet into the carriageway?
