Depending on what mood I’m in I either laugh or cringe when I see someone driving down the road with both back doors of a curtain side fastened back (often with a ratchet strap all the way round the trailer) and an over length piece of whatever poking out the back.
People don’t realise that with both doors open there’s little structural resistance to a sideways shear. Seen a fair number of trailers over the years that have simply collapsed because of this.
I can’t help but laugh when I see artics parked up for the weekend in some layby, showing the interior load of something like reels of paper or plasterboard - two things that won’t fare well when damp - bearing in mind it pours down with rain a lot at some point across each weekend in this country!
ETS:
This makes them think that all of us who don’t do it have something of value inside
Also in MSA (mostly foreign) drivers will back up all the way until their rear is inside the hedges along the walkway
At least I’m be safe when I have a truck with a fold-up tail lift, right? Right??
If Im empty or have crap on I may park somewhere a bit "iffy" but open rear doors to avoid slashers. If I have valuable stuff on I will park somewhere more secure and leave doors closed. . If you cant open your doors because you have valuable stuff on, why are you parking somewhere you fear slashers etc? Surely it is you choosing to park somewhere dodgy with a vulnerable load?
I don`t see that you have any cause for complaint against other drivers leaving their doors open.
.
Having to leave doors open is far from ideal, but unfortunately that is the way it is.

They can still steal your diesel?! By your logic, if you’re ever going to park anywhere then it must be a non-iffy place which in theroy is sound logic but in practice we all know that the choice is not always there (talking about longer breaks btw not overnight parking). Seeing tons of drivers leaving doors open in MSAs as well. Good place for rats to use as their toilet/temporary accommodation.

Sorry, but Im not understanding you here. Are you meaning long breaks during the day, or weekend breaks? I dont see much of problem with a few hours off in the day, maybe Im ignorant of the risks? A weekend break? Nowt wrong with going somewhere safe, even if it is a way down the road, surely? . If you say that enough money isnt being spent on cleaning MSAs or on police security, I would agree with you. But we are where we are.
