Well said Harry, the good times are long gone in this game.

So the way forward to restore ourselves to perfect health, crash gearboxes & 24hr working shifts is…?

expanding your options tbh, plus i prefer driving an artic to a rigid. i also prefer left hand drive to right hand drive.i really enjoy the artics and the trucks are usually better.
also doing long distance european tour work in a rigid is very rare. i also enjoy doing 5/600 miles a day
I could have been impressed by this post Gogzy, but for the fact that most of the members of this forum have done more miles in reverse than you’ve done forwards.
Coz they’ve missed the entrance and can’t turn round
So how many miles are you claiming ? In excess of 3 million??
Surely you drive what you do because of the circumstances i.e. do you want nights out ? weeks out ? weekends away ? etc. etc.
Gavin

but i could probably drive better in reverse than alot of the drivers on this forum. ps please remember how young i am aswell. im only trying to get experience i dont need shot down by another driver because of my age…
It’s got nothing to do with age gogzy, the ink’s hardly dry on your licence yet you blow your trumpet as if you’ve been driving for donkey’s years. Think before you type, you’re young, you’ve got a long road ahead of you, don’t try to walk before you can crawl. It’s not my intention to " shoot you down " you do that yourself with comments like the one above. Don’t take offence at my comments because there is none intended. Good luck.
find where ive blwon my own trumpet (apart fromt he sarcasm above) about how good ive said i am and i will delete myself from this site and never post again?

nobody would want to drive an artic if there were no curtainsiders and just flat trailers like the old days.ropes and sheets and no pallets, all handball.they couldnt do it todays drivers.I saw a flatbed artic today - the roping and sheeting looked rather neat
Oh and I wouldnt mind doing roping and sheeting
I saw one of Eddies today with a flat trailer roped & sheeted. Never seen that before

here we ■■■■■■■ go.
the young pups of today cant do this and cant do that, ■■■■ me!
i bet we shouldnt even be driving as were not long out of shorts.
its called progress get over it and stop living in the past. have you never embraced technology advancement, i bet you still have a tele that takes 2 hours to warm up before it switches on, and obviously you dont own a computer
us young ones can do it its just that we dont have to as the world has evolved not like some peoples attitudes!
granny and eggs spring to mind…
Couldnt care less what i drive as long as it pays well and the vehicle is not a vosa please stop me beacon. Drive an artic at the moment but quite happily jump in hook loaders skip lorrys 7.5 t tippers at work as the need arises. If a job came up driving a van paying another few quid id be there like a shot

Sounds about right to me too
And to me.
I am leavind for London on Sprinter Van today. On my normal rate, which, after eight hours makes me earning nearly 10 quids per hour of driving a van… Can’t complain.
And hotel paid.

Exactly the point I made earlier. Doesn’t matter how technically good a driver is, if he ain’t willing to drive at least most things then in my view he ain’t a thorough professional.
We had one on our job; never (knowingly ) had an accident in years, always did things by the book; one day he was asked to take a rigid curtainsider out with a palletised load as opposed to a bulker, refused because “he hadn’t been trained to do it” and “didn’t know how to open the curtains”. On another occasion, refused to drive an ERF because “he hadn’t been trained on it”.
That’s not a professional driver no matter how good his accident record is; that’s an awkward jobsworth. Thankfully he’s moved on. Unfortunately, some drivers mix up “class one” with “first class”; they’re not always the same thing.
Have to say I agree with Harry Gill’s comments as well.
hiya, first time ever someone has sort of agreed with my views, thanks GG. thanks harry long retired.
I want to learn C+E/class one bacause im allergic to flat pack furniture, kitchen worktops, pax wardrobes, matresses and also flights of stairs just will take me 50 years to save up for it as a class 2 driver
My original post was to suggest that grab lorries can be a good well paying job that perhaps new drivers(or any hgv driver) could look at…Not i drive a 44t artic and you drive a 17t rigid or you’ve just passed your test you cant tell us anything…
I love artics because i like the feeling when i successfully get round a tight turn without hitting a kerb, and i love it when i finally get into a tight spot reversing after 30 odd shunts

Absolutely. Unfortunately, any comparison between rigid driving and artic driving on this site always seems to rouse the “professionals” into defending their arcane craft of driving things which bend in the middle!
i find rigids hard to drive compared to artics - sounds weird i know
plus we only have one rigid at our depot and it is a bag of bolts - so i stay well clear
and there is too many handballs on the wee motors
What was the Question■■?
Oh yeah, after reading some of that, i thought we’d got a crossed line with Bitchnet.uk.
Anyway, in answer to original Question, its definatly a ■■■■■ size thing.
