personally i love going where its rubbish, bad roads, bad driving, general hassle,

Yea! But I bet you’re always pleased when you get to the docks or the tunnel and start heading for the Continent.

For me it was reading the long distance diaries in Truck mag, always wanted to go have go. I know it’s different now with the borders down and the fact I’m not doing general haulage work, so don’t stay in the same places, but I still see some great scenery and drive some great roads.

Well ive had a couple of days in Northern France this week and I love it, driving french roads are so much better, cant wait to get over there again on monday ( im really looking forward to the P&O breakfast aswell lol )

True, but those silly Teletubby windmills let the view down a bit!

OK, here’s one without them.

the hotel on the right going through agreda used to be end of day 2 from peterborough, ■■■■ little thing behind the bar on most nights.
the pic is the 101 heading to almazan isn’t it?
used to use it all the time, could never understand why anyone heading down to the south coast went via burgos/madrid instead of this lovely flat route

that is the 101 i use it every trip i don’t understand why the brits insist on victors and burgos

the reason euro driving is so much better apart from everything mentioned above everybody has missed the best bit,
you only have to open your curtains or doors once or twice a week not every day like uk

Might have mentioned in an earlier post that I’m a great fan of that route. The only time I go via Burgos is if I’m likely to run out of hours in between Agreda and Medinacelli, as places to get fed and watered are somewhat sparse.

good places to park squarepeg,
after agreda you cross the teruel to soria road, well take the sign that says fuel and parking about 1km off cl101 little bar with good cheap food walls are covered with hundreds of bullfighters memorabilia
when you get to almazan to turn left off cl101 onto n111 for madrid and medinacelli don’t turn left but head in to town keep going straight til you get to t junction. turn left on old n111 for madrid and as you leave town centre petrolstation on left with about 30 or 40 spaces to park behind and restaurant 9 euros menu del dia and big supermarket across the road eroski open 9-21 very well reccomended personally

Yes I know the place well, it was always referred to the Bullfighters bar. A popular stop for Spanish & Portuguese car transporter drivers as it was on their route (from where to where I forget). Same old guy has had it for years. Don’t know the other place, but will bear it in mind.
The place I try and make for when heading north is at Valverde, on the N113 about 15k’s before Cintruenigo, a favourite of mine, great food & wine. On the left heading north, parking on both sides of the road.

squarepeg, if you’re coming northbound on N111 when you get to first exit for almazan says poligono industrial. take that exit to roundabout take first exit and garage about 1km on right and supermarket on left. i stop there every trip cos its 8.50 hrs from malaga

Thanks for your suggestions and directions.
It’s usually late evening by the time I get loaded and not being a great fan of this “drive all night and try to sleep during the day” malarky, I just do enough that night to enable me to get to the boat in two hits.
So usually stop south of Madrid that night, followed by the forest road the next night.

Vaverde!!! Possibly my all time favourite when I was running Spain. Many a happy weekend, ask for a room key & you could go upstairs for a shower too…
Cracking food & wine & very lively in the bar on saturday & sunday evenings.
Used N1 occasionally just for a change but never when heavy or hazardous.
Almazan town of the Storks, that was always a good spot by the garage too, the Euroski hadn’t been opened long when I stopped international though.

Happy days!!
