Why do you drive abroad

Harry Monk:
True, but those silly Teletubby windmills let the view down a bit!

OK, here’s one without them.

Yes, that’s better, is it Denmark?

No Spain, near Agreda, on road between Pamplona and Madrid.

I agree with the previous replies:-
All i have ever done (35 yearsat it)
Treat with respect
Better roads
Quiet roads
No parking fees
Better food
So its good to get away from rip off Britain and the crap that the uk driver has to put up with and if i were 20 years younger i would not even be living here in the UK

No Spain.

Well, you know, Denmark and Spain are very similar!

i like the fact that when i get caught doing something i shouldnt i can just act stupid and the police will get so fed up trying to explain that i shouldnt be doining something they just tell you to go away

. As i have no experience in euro work what happens when you get weekended do you get paid for that ■■?//

I get paid the same day rate regardless of what I do. Last month I got paid a full day’s money for spending all day laying by this…

That was taken from a Long Distance Diary I did of a trip to Spain which you might or might not be interested in, here http://trucknetuk.com/phpBB2/posting.php?mode=editpost&p=370297

That URL is wrong :stuck_out_tongue:

the hotel on the right going through agreda used to be end of day 2 from peterborough, ■■■■ little thing behind the bar on most nights.
the pic is the 101 heading to almazan isn’t it?
used to use it all the time, could never understand why anyone heading down to the south coast went via burgos/madrid instead of this lovely flat route

You must have been heart broken Harry   .

I’ve had some fantastic experiences while being weekended, Red Square in Moscow, the Blue Mosque in Istanbul, the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, cable-car up a mountain in Switzerland… but believe me I’ve also had more than my fair share of Sundays sat in Belgian motorway services watching torrential rain through the windscreen and thinking “I could be home in four hours”!

I drive “international” because of all the above too
and you cant beat sitting for hours on end waiting for a ferry it beats sitting at /M1 or the M6 or a tesco RDC being told you late !!!
talking /bullchittin your way out of a fine to some italian/french/germany/belgium/dutch policeman (not that i make a habit of it)
and the job i now do is home just about every weekend (friday and sat)ship sunday
ok i might be able to earn more working in the UK but its not as much fun i’d much rather get lost in swiss some where than say “Essex or Manchester”
and the boss i have now is by far the best ive ever worked for & i dont think the present Mrs jones would want me home every other night getting in her way of eastenders or the iorning!

Yes, that’s the CL 101.
If its the same hotel I’m thinking of, Its on the road down from the bus station at the top, as you drop down into town.
I’ve only stopped there once as its usually in the wrong place to and from the boat (Cherbourg) .
Agreed its a better route.

this is the same road but going home ie almazan to agreda

again heading home so the hotel is on the left

I do it because I prefer being treated with a little respect, being able to park at some nice places with decent facilities and food. most of the companies and staff are better geared up than us unfortunately.

If you ask a Dutch driver or a Belgian, they will tell you that they prefer coming to the UK for the pubs and the standard of driving :open_mouth:

It is certainly not all about money, as in general a UK driver will earn more money. At the moment I have the best of both worlds as I get home every weekend and still do Europe.

you sure the fly is gone .#i thought my computer had a virus.its was freaking me out.

Hello all, new boy here with my 1st post…
Im gagging to do Euro work but im finding it really hard to find some euro companies!!!, I live in north hertfordshire, has anyone got any sugestions of any companies that will take on a driver with no euro experience. im 28 and been driving coachs/lorries for 7 years. Tipper or fridge work would be good but anything considered!
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris.
Welcome to TruckNetUK.

I’ve no idea about companies in North Hertfordshire I’m afraid, it’s a bit out of my area
The best of luck in finding somewhere.

I have at last found somewhere. Start tomorrow with trips to france

Good luck chris i hope you enjoy it
