Why do Tipper drivers drive so aggressively

Today A 13 at 14.00 at lodge lane flyover shut down both ways because of a selfish TIPPER driver…causing fxxx mayhem to all of road users… They are the only ■■■■■ that overtake on that useless bit of flyover… (It was put up as a temporary remedy around 1965 ish)I know on this forum I’ve slanted Tipper drivers but their record deserves my condemnation… Who in their right mind would drive in the manner that they do if it was not under the influence of some mind bending drug…or as I believe it’s bonus orientated…Shame on them p

I’d imagine the fact he left the tail door open and left about five ton of wet muck on the road that caused the problem.
The firm in question s Walsh have some brain dead morons on there and there driving on tips is beyond belief.
As for aggressive driving I guess it’s like why do most container drivers think been four foot from the vehicle in front is an acceptable gap at 56mph

Granted some tipper drivers can be aggressive but they are not the only ones for sure.
What about all the bully boy artic drivers that try to intimidate other drivers daily or the aggressive van or car drivers.
It’s not what they drive that makes them aggressive.
It’s the way they are. Selfish and very bad drivers with no concern for anyone or anything but themselves.

I drive like a ■■■■ but I can’t match tipper standards.

Don’t fret lad, it will come with practice. I had 20+ years on tippers up until 2002 (all my driving career) and never really encountered that sort of driving (apart from a few tear arses who probably had premature ■■■■■■■■■■■ as well)) and we were paid on either bonus or earnings. Maybe it’s just the pace of life nowadays as everybody seems in a big hurry on virtually any road you travel on.

There’s a mentality that’s crept into society and is most apparent on our roads. It’s the “■■■■ you all, I’m more important” attitude.
(Probably Maggie Thatchers fault!) :grimacing:

Another driver who thought that because he’d pressed the “lock” button on his auto tailgate, he didn’t need to check it to see if a stone had jammed in the mechanism. Or, he pressed the switch before the body was right down so that the latch shut while the gate was still swinging.
Another excuse might be he had one of those awful auto lift tailgates that have a pulley system which as the tipper raises, the tailgate slides up and open. I had one that would jam for no reason and was told by some to 'drive quick over a pothole" to make it shut properly.
:unamused:
I’ve asked my boss that when he replaces my 8w to have a manual tailgate lever. With these stupid rear underrun bars nowadays you have to get out and clean off the debris anyway.

To be fair, the standard of tipper driving has greatly improved on the A13 over the last few years. I don’t know if something drastically changed in the industry, or whether they were just so bad it couldn’t get worse. Don’t see many rushing about anymore, and I even overtake a lot and I only do 53. To be fair as well, there’s good and bad in all drivers. I know some really good container drivers, and some right animals. I did fridges, some drivers in that industry take some beating, hacking around country lanes like go carts. Curtainsider drivers seem the worst to me, but I guess that’s because I see more of them

As a box jockey myself I can confirm that some of the antics of my fellow damsels is down right embarrassing.

Although I have had my moments tipper drivers are widely acknowledged as the worst of the worst, with the exception of any tipper drivers on this forum especially if they know where I live.

Whoo hoo! I’m amongst the worst!

Its usually due to bonus or percentage earnings,or franchise contractors, more loads more money.

Or people working for the big firms because they get a new (contract lease) motor every three years.

miss a gear miss a load mentality - but as with anything in life we only really remember the bad ones not the good.

never ever thought about doing tipper work just because of this mentality.

A lot more firms just pay a wage now between the traffic vosa and cvu on everyone’s case now you can’t make enough time to get an extra load

Those 25x new ugly ducklings have to be paid for. I like that their “senior” transport manager says they need “robust” trucks. More like bombproof.
Seriously, anybody tried those Fruehauf tipper bodies? Seen some that look really lightweight but also as ugly as ■■■■.

They have the worst drivers in the east London Essex area. They pay crap money too

Those two points usually go hand in hand.
Crap money attracts only crap drivers.

I do not know the company, never driven tippers eighter, just playing devil’s advocate.
What about crap drivers first and then wages not getting better because of said drivers ?

I have seen companies where the behavior of a number of their drivers forced them to implement the most stupid rules, and no, their wages were ok.

It will not be owner drivers ,costs are to high for that game ,unless they are new to the game then find out the hard way.
