Why do people try to open your cab door!

I need to open your door chimps will now be googling how to get in a Magnum Harry.

Ive had complete strangers open my passenger door climb up the stair and start talking to me.

And i was sleeping - head on steering wheel kinda sleep but still gone and some jakey bastart opens my door and asks me for a ■■■. You wouldn’t do that to someone sitting in a car why does it seem acceptable in a lorry Its bizarre :unamused:

Harry Monk:
I dislike it too but funnily enough it seems to have stopped now because people can’t work out where the door handle is on a Magnum.

You also need a cherry picker to get up that far

It is good for being isolated from the hoi-polloi but the downside is that you don’t get such a good view of the girl in lane 2’s legs.

i personally wouldn’t run with the door locked other than than slow moving town / city driving if i thought it was dodgy. i don’t wanna make it any harder than it needs to be for someone to get me out after an accident.

a school mates dad was a traffic cop and it was one of his bugbears

The whole world is dodgy. Just leave 'em both locked at all times when out in the white-lined jungle.

you’ve never been to Scarborough then?!!!

I think all the trucks I’ve driven in the last 10 years have had a system where, when you unlock the drivers door with the key your passenger door stays locked. I thought this was to prevent “unwanted visitors” gaining access from that side while you are still climbing in yourself.
Several have a switch to unlock (and lock) the passenger door from the drivers side. The Merc I drive now and its predecessor does. Clicking lock then locks all unlocked doors.

My passenger door stays locked almost all the time. My door is normally unlocked.

Just grap hold of him and shout “Listen boy, I say listen boy, My patience is exceeding the limitations of my medication, Do you hear me boy, I say do you hear me boy?”
That’ll do the trick.

People opening your door really ■■■■■■ me off too. I think I might get one of those strictly staff only signs for the doors, like you see in a customers office

Especially if its female.

Once had a scouse smack head try to open my passenger door while at a set of lights on the road towards the docks after the tunnel. Thankfully it was locked. Would have hated the risk of spreading disease when his nose would have exploded.

It’s part of my walk round check in the morning to give the passenger door handle a tug to make sure its locked.

From the drivers seat in a truck you are in no position to control/punch anybody who chooses to open your passenger door, so its just good practise in my opinion.

The last time that happened to me (a few years back) my old Staffie gave Mr Traffic Plod a very warm welcome indeed

I think drivers sides a great position to give them a size 10 square on the nose though

Yes, twice - but I was too scared to use anything but my car to negotiate the 7.5t streets though.
Even the petrol station ripped me off when I was leaving! :frowning:

I thought that was Anthrax rather than Crack that did that…

Mind you, I dunno what they’re cutting the crack with these days, so on second thoughts maybe we’re both correct here. :open_mouth:

Ordinarily my nostrils are quite accomodating but this is one thing that really does get right up my nose.

Cars where the doors look electrically when you drive do worry me if you went off the road into water and the electrics died. Don’t like the way if you leave the kids in the car and remote lock the doors with the fob they can’t get out at all.

Not a very good one then, what would he do if it was a stolen car or the guy inside had a load of drugs on passenger seat. Wave him on his way because the door was locked ■■? No he would do what he would do in the case of someone being locked in after an accident and put the window in!.

when a car crashed into my trailer and ended up in the 3rd lane, i ran over from the hard shoulder opened the door, got the woman who wasn’t majorly hurt but was in pretty bad shock out of the car that she’d been sat in 30 - 60 seconds before i got there, then back over to the hard shoulder. luckily it was 8pm in the summer, so the road was quiet but in full daylight, so we were lucky. i didn’t have anything on me to put a window through and it never crossed my mind when i set off from my truck to take something heavy with me, sure i would of found something or got in somehow, but it all takes time. whilst i never seen anything other than the steam you’d expect, the recovery driver said there had been a fire under the bonnet, so again we were lucky. but every now and then people will be needing to get people out sharpish.

the point is, common sense would say that the police are very rarely 1st on the scene and it’s down to the general public to get you out sharpish if the vehicle is on fire.

if you knew him you’d wouldn’t say he was not a very good one and you’d be ashamed of yourself for suggesting it.

A key in your hand would do it, basically anything strong and pointy will break glass very easily - except a windscreen which it’ll just crack / shatter but obviously the laminate would keep it in place.

but they were in the truck 50 yards up the hard shoulder, as were my steelies, i was in shorts and trainers. chances are i’d of found a stone or some other random thing finds its way under the central reservation, if it was life and death i’d of had a good go at punching / kicking it through, but it is easier if the door’s unlocked

[Have you read any of his posts, they probably are going to either punch him or ask his advice on how to take a corner due to his magnificent and incomparable skills

Good answer

Personally I lock both doors when driving, that comes from leaving the Bronx / Yonker area in the middle of the night and meeting very unsavoury looking geezers standing in the road trying to get in my cab, and in those cases the window stays fully closed also.
