Cadillacs latest estate beat the Lotus Evora, V12 Vantage, Merc SLS AMG and Evo around the top gear USA track which is pretty tight and twisty
Not everything Clarkson constantly parrots is gospel
I like the look and especially the sound - the video Tarrman posted is awesome! I also grew up with Duel, Convoy, SMokey & The Bandit etc etc so I guess part of it comes from that. Euro trucks look a bit too plastic and cramped by comparison.

My Dodge Charger is based on the old E class Mercedes platform, mine is the R/T so it has the sporty suspension set up, it handles as well as a sporty E class Merc, but it has a 5.7ltr V8 in it and believe me, that adds a whole new dimension to going fast
It also cost me a hell of a lot less than a similarly fast Merc or BMW, both to buy and to keep on the road and with petrol being half the price over here, who cares about mpg when you can hear and feel the thunder of a 5.7ltr HEMI
I love american trucks just something about the pure size and shape of them are an awsome sight, prob also why i like the Scania T cab as it resembles the shape of an american rig. Im also a fan of the american pick up are so much more imposing on the road than the ones commonly seen overhere. For me the bigger the truck the better

I seem to remember NMM arguing with Carryfart a while back at how he thought Euro trucks were better. Fairly sharp U Turn there old chap, David Cameron would be proud.I would never recommend using an America truck in Europe, they’re just too big and would be a total PITA, but do not confuse that with me thinking that Euro trucks are better than American trucks, because, as I’ve said many times, the US trucks are better at their job than the Euro ones
Maybe in the case of a conventional which can’t be legally coupled to a standard length semi trailer here anyway. But American cab overs have proved themselves up to the job on euro/uk work going back years as in the Kenworths in the UK topic shows.

Don’t forget the Ford that won Le Mans was originally the Lola GT40 designed and built by Eric Broadley in Huntingdon.
But not the Cobra Daytona Coupes that wiped out Ferrari. The basic idea of cheap, easy to maintain, torquey pushrod V8 works as well today v the euro competition as it ever did.

The American Volvos are nice, the looks and build quality of a European motor, with the space of an American one.
dont know where you heard the build quality was better IMo/experience… electrical, emision control decoking problems
shorter wheelbase ,better turning circle.for a yr…BUT i was given a KW 660 cat engine long wheelbase etc ,i first thought i was being punnished but after a week or so on the northern gravel rd run the KW proved to be a much better truck for the 18mnths i drove it never a problem.
jimmy.
Why do people love yank trucks■■?
Maybe its the nice long wheel base for a smoother ride, or the fact you can actually stretch your legs out while cruising down the interstate, or the plenty of space for enough clothes for a month and still room left over for TV fridge etc or maybe the twin size bed or if unlucky enough to be teaming the top bunk is bigger then most euro units, or maybe the comfy seat that you get out of after doing over 1K kms each day and actually still able to walk. Doint that mileage everyday I know which one I would rather have

Get yourself the new dodge RAM with the 5.7 ltr HEMI or the ford F150 raptor lol

This is mine;
1963 GMC, had it over 7 years now; as you can see it still earns its keep hauling logs for me two wood-burning stoves.
Yes it’s thirsty, I get about 15 mpg driven steadily, single figures if it get booted; it’s rather rare in the UK, probably less than a dozen 60-66 models in the whole of the UK, and only mine and a 61 4x4 Suburban down in Essex that are known to have their original V6 engines. That is NOT a typo BTW; for more on them (and if you’re into old American trucks there’s plenty of tasty pics) on here.
Why? It’s fun, it’s different, I always wanted one, it’s useable; I’ve shifted stuff varying from full-dress Harley Electra-Glides to a new staircase for me house on it.
It’s on the button, simple to work on and has only ever let me down once, when the starter motor died. It stands any amount of abuse as you can see…
… next door neighbour’s JCB had broken down, so I used the recognised alternative method to tip.
Yes, a Transit pick-up would do the same job; but that truck’s tax-free cos of its age, insurance is cheap, and apart from that the Transit chassis and cab would be razor blades by now. And it wouldn’t be half as much fun.
Inevitably I’m always asked when I’m going to restore it. No way Jose… I love it as it is.

I know what your saying CR, just never been a fan of British motors. Even in my nutty days I had 2 Impreza imports and a Nissan Skyline GTR but not all at the same time.
I love those muscle cars too.but one has to fly the flag doesn’t one

If you’re going to fly the flag then Morgan is about the only British Firm left
Sad,isn’t it.

Beleive me if i could afford to run the bloody thing i would get one tomorrow!! Unfortuanlty il have to stick to my lil truck lol :-s
Just thought I’d bump this up after my first trip in a yank truck a local trip just over 1000 mile round trip in a 2011 freightliner Coronado with a Detroit engine although not carryfasts beloved screaming two stroke but the engine Mercedes will be using for euro six and a 13 speed eaton fuller constant mesh gearbox.
Space wise to live in it beats anything in Europe the lower bed is almost the size of a double bed and the top bed was very wide and there was a walldrobe that you could easily hang a couple of weeks trousers and shirts in plus loads of storage space and a caravan type fridge.
This is a pretty much standard off the shelf truck and obviously the options list goes on as much as your finances allow.
Now on to the driving the fuller box is ok on the open road where lots of the driving is wether you would be so keen if you was in New York or Chicago every day is another story. The manoeuvrability compared to a euro truck is no where near as good a lwb 6x4 and a 53 foot trailer isn’t a compact vehicle but the roads have generally been built around the motor vehicle whereas most of ours in the uk were built round the horse and cart. Talking of horse and carts they crash and bang along the road but that’s just the state of the roads in a Canada and I think any modern euro truck is just a little to fragile to deal with conditions over here and Volvo have had to make a more rugged product to crack the market here but I think they could bring a little more euro know how in to the product.
I think if I was offered a bonneted scania 143 with an American type sleeper over here I would choose that over most of the stuff here but a Pete 379 now that would be living the dream even if it has the turning circle of a cross channel ferry.
