Why at 62

I have just taken and passed my C license at 62 years of age and some of you will ask why.Well here goes I was a chauffeur for many years after 15 years in the Army but was made redundant in 2008. I have a friend who owns a large Upvc company so I asked him for a job driving great back on the road 7.5 tonner hard graft but beats watching Jeremy Kyle on Tv lol.My problems with the company started with the Transport Manager (owners brother knows I need the job) No CPC No driving License( Drunk Driver 2nd time)never been on the road is very abuisive smells of stale alcohol all the time tells lots of lies never supports drivers (many H-S issues)Tells drivers to fiddle taco’s ( I refuse to ) so my only option is to take my C and try and get a better job and get away from him before I do something I would regret as of now I am looking for one. My family ask why do I need to do it at my age well I don’t want to curl up in the corner yet and I need something to get up for in the morning.I am looking forward to being C driver and hopefully finding a good Company to work for in the East Midlands.Any help would be appreciated.
Very kind regards to you all Brian

Hi Brian J,

I’d like to wish you the very best of luck with your new career.

There’s plenty of useful info on here, and for questions that you can’t find answers to… we’re here to help.

If you decide to go onwards and take your C+E, have you had a look at our list of LGV tuition providers that have been recommended by our members?

Good luck. I hope you can make it away from the terrible company.

I found the easiest way to find haulage companies was to type in haulage on Google maps and zoom in on the areas you’re willing to work. I found 90 companies within 40 miles of home.

Good luck.

I say good for you. As long as it keeps you active and you enjoy it. I would say the first thing to do is enrol at a local agency and get some more industry experience; I presume you already have plenty of other knowledge which should stand you in good stead.

Hiyyaaa BrianJ, congratulations on passing your C test, & good on yer for deciding to take a new career path    & welcome
