Why are fleet trucks so basic?

Another point worth mentioning is that if specifying front foglights costs, lets say £400, then spread the cost over a fleet of 50 vehicles then that is an extra £20,000. But much to have some lights that will rarely be used legally, but will satisfy a driver’s need to willy wave.

many years ago i often used to wonder why Dutch spec trucks were far superior to uk speck trucks. Just an observation.

Probably about the same time that I worked for a truck rental company. My fleet consisted of Foden’s, Daf’s and a Volvo F88 demo (Reg no PHS995M). The only things I had difficulty renting out were the Foden’s but I could have done with another six Volvo’s.

What is wrong with a basic motor? All the extras are just garnish it doesn’t increase the rates.

In the 60’s a heater in a lorry was an optional extra, not a standard fitting.I remember blokes driving lorries bought brand new in the mid 60’s with no heater. But the men were much tougher in those days :exclamation: :exclamation:

Fleet spec trucks are usually treated like [zb], and are just a tool of the job, so they buy a tool capable of doing the job.

And usually driven by a tool on the job.

Ken.

As a driver of a fleet truck I was a little annoyed at this comment, however your right! When I got to work this morning, on the notice board there was a poster showing the cost of damaged trucks, in January alone things like broken mirrors, suzies, lights, cab interior etc came to over £5000!!! :open_mouth:

Then when I got into my truck it smelt like ■■■■, crumbs and sticky coffee stains all over the dash, bits of old tissue stuffed in the pockets, ■■■ ash, dents all over the outside, as a conscientious driver who takes pride in my work it can be embarrassing.

I would just like to point out that I haven’t caused any damage to vehicles so we’re not all tools but there are alot of filthy drivers with no respect for others property and they are tools!

your trucks arent top notch or anywhere near there but they pretty much always seem tidy and decent, but £5000 thats bad! Agency lads or night lads?
