why all the moaning about newbies

Right i,m going though the motions on hgv licence spending lots of money to get there. I spend alot of time reading what many of you guys say about there being no work too many drivers how the wages are going south and blaming newbies for doing the job for peanuts just to get some experience. So lets think about this for a moment if i can not get a start because i need 2 years of experience and YOU are happy at your place of work and not looking to change jobs surely these so called company’s and agency’s are looking to employ experienced foreign drivers who can come to my country and get paid peanuts because they don’t have a family and a mortgage so therefore hurting your pocket as much as mine. I think you should encourage the newbies and these so called companys e.t.c should be asking for 2 years of experience of driveing in the UK what do you think posting.php?mode=post&f=2#

Non comprende hombre■■?

All newbies ( young ones ! ) :sunglasses: should be encouraged  YOU’RE the future! and you’re WELCOME to it :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: enjoy

Some people forget they were newbies once!
Either that or they just like slagging people off.
If those in the industry want to be respected then we need to act more professional not just on the road!

Admirable sentiments, but why here?

The reason is i quite often see people moaning about wages newbies no work e.t.c. And i spend quite a bit of time looking at jobs and companys in my area on one of these so called companies web site they done a competition for the top 10 drivers and not 1 had a english name this company are in my view poor paying and hurt all drivers i wont name them but they are quite big and based in soham. It is my view that it is no new people doing the job that are driveing the wages down. Also i now see many companys asking for x amount of years of lhd experience when looking for a European driver as they want this person to drive in europe or is it they are looking for a polish driver they can pay crap money to.

Lorry drivers moan i dont belive it.

I was responding to skypilot! On the other hand I surrender! Lifes too short. Good luck with your career. :unamused:

deck 21, if you want to drive hgvs for a living good luck to you,but after the first five years the novelty will wear off,as one of the other guys said you are welcome to it,it will not get better only worse, probably more legislation, more rules, there are loads of drivers out there who still enjoy it,but also loads more who do not,

Now,now, now young lad 45 years ago when I began older drivers didn’t speak to or acknowledge the existence of the new/younger drivers so your telling us nothing
has changed in 45 years, shame Walter Gabriel died.

You’ve got 11 yrs on me but I remember it differently.
I wanted to be nothing else but a driver after travelling with my Dad, and later on a mate who showed me the more err interesting  places in towns when on a night out.
When I did pass my test I was as green as grass, and I used to respect (to the point of idolising) the old hands who had “done a bit”. I often asked their advice which they readily gave, and I took it on board and consequently learned from it accepting that they knew better than me.
I find today that most (not all) newbies think they know it all and you know jack sh :smiling_imp: , which does tend to ■■■■ me a bit.
You just have to look how driving standards have dropped PARTLY because of this dickwhit attitude towards old proven systems such as flashing in for example, and general mutual driver respect is ignored in favour of an every man for himself attitude.
I reckon personally this goes a long way towards experienced driver’s attitudes towards newbies, I will say though that I will help any new lad who is willing to listen, and have done many times.
As for the others I would say that an HGV licence does not neccessarilly mean that you are a “Driver” :bulb:

Same as Armagedon , I started just over 45 years ago and a lot of similar comments were made then. Lorry drivers moaned and said they were going to pack it in and all the rest. Very few did, because they didn’t know anything else. The HGV licence improved wages for a few years, but now the wages are poorer. A lot more legislation with the tacho, speed limiters, DCPC and it’s LGV licence instead of HGV etc. Nothing changes regarding drivers having a moan.

When I started out, I listened to some old hands…ended up in court!

I get that i,m not a young kid at 44 years done alot of driving jobs but have lost my current job as a used car buyer for the motor trade and now want to do a job where there is less stress of course there is pressure in driving a lorry to deadlines and people in the office giving grief but you can only do what the rules allow you and it is my licence and if they want me to break them i,ll just move on SIMPLES.

I try to listen to the old hands but all they tell me is how handy I have it and “wait till it gets busy” and all this ■■■■ :unamused:

Montmorency,Walter drove for the Archers from Ambridge for years, great company sadly gone well down hill lately, probably go bust soon, another one gone.
