Well, where do I start?
I have 8 months with not a sniff of work and then get offered temp ad-hoc instructor work for the biggest trainer in my area — Great!!
I get a full weeks work for this week starting at 7 am today.
Then what happens? — I get a stomach bug that lasts all night so I don’t get to sleep till gone 4am!!!
Needless to say, that I was not fit to ride a bicycle, let alone a car at 6am this morning so had to call in sick — ON MY FIRST DAY !!!
Got some ZZZZZZZZZZs in till about 10 am then called in again with a second apology and asked if the 2 trainees had been sorted — my thought was that if not, they might want me straight in and extend the training day for today and tomorrow but it seems that things were sorted for them — GOOD.
I REALLY hate letting people down like this and feel crap about being the cause of this situation.
Well I am now awaiting a call from the boss, which I fully expect to be bad news.
Im at home all week , slowdown , not finished but on enforced holiday , each driver is taking a week , there is 20 of us one a week then see what happens :

Well i was right …even though i did cross my fingers !..how much longer can i hold out without work i dont know , sitting at home dont pay the bills … and so boring too !!
hi, yep count me in, been unemployed two weeks now, when i got made redundant it was the first
time since 1999, i had been out of work, it was only for 1 day then, i honestly didnt realise how bad things had got, ive applied to 40 firms, got some no thanks replys, got two interested, got two maybe end of february, got a lot of didnt even have the time,
dont even consider west ■■■■■■■ for employment,!
even the agencies are quiet up here,
heres a statement a employer made to me,“i,ve had lads come in here that wouldnt work for £7 ph last year and now they are willing to drive owt on wheels for £6 ph”.
isnt there a song"things can only get better" but i keep hearing “down down deeper and down”,
it must be bad i,m missing the m25 on a monday morning,
hi, i feel for you speed freak cos you aint had a fair crack of the whip yet, at least i got a lot of time before i hit giros(havent had one yet, dont go down till wed am) there is no better feeling than your first drive, something mere mortals cant comprehend, i would advise you to keep trying, but i know what its like,(an you may be like me"speak the wrong language to work in uk) but something will turn up
(i hope) cos litter picking at mcdonalds doesnt sound too good,.
This is probably not that relevant to this industry but the programme ‘Dispatches’ on channel 4 is asking about age discrimination for the over 50s - the prog is called ‘Too old to work?’
Go on Rog admit It you missed your 1st day in work on purpose didn’t you. You didn’t get to sleep on Sunday night because you were sweating just thinking how you was going to get through the day without a dose of trucknet, go on admit it, go on go on admit it
I’m 3 months in working for the local bus company. Local shifts, 7.5hr days, £240/w takehome and within walking distance. I won’t gloat because before I got the job with them I was in the same boat as you guys, except I had less of a licence than you do (only 7.5t/van).
I’m still route learning on the starter routes and getting used to the buses and live cargo, but tbh it’s not all bad. It’s certainly an option for some of you. I know the arguaments, but compared to no work and £240 a week takehome, I prefer the latter.

It is if your over 50, the industry is laying off drivers younger than me in their thousands and the media recently informing employers they only need pay migrants a wage similar to their home country.
I am a part time member as I am getting some shifts off the agency but not a sniff of a full time job…
Did well last week I ended up with a full week driving the drugs around, also had a shift in for Asda on Sat night so can’t complain too much just wish some decent work would come up!!!
