Who's *not* going back to work?

As the title asks; who decided not to go back to work because they are not far off retirement or they just can’t be arsed having got used to being at home?

I wish!! I’m only 27 so I’ve got no chance of having such thoughts. Back at work on the 18th.

i took that advice several years ago and have my own profitable hobby that keeps me from being a 24/7 couch potato.
a wee trip now and then keeps my eye in so for me it makes no difference, just another day in paradise.
obviously if there was no tinterweb and netflix, then that would be a different story.
until then, its bring it on boris for as long as you like…

There always have been alternate and sometimes easier ways to make money than working in the sense that we know it. I think that this scare will make a lot of people look into alternate ways of earning a living and indeed make a lot of folks seek out and change careers. It is a mindset that we have all gone along with in the traditional sense of working. That mindset will no doubt alter.

I’m back in next Wednesday, after 6 lovely weeks off, mostly spent with my lovely wife, in my lovely garden, or going for lovely walks in the countryside, …simply lovely as some body says. .
It would have been even better if places were open, and I could go out and socialise with her, and with my mates.m but the fact I could be at home and not even see a ■■■■ truck for all that time was enough.
I can not understand these cab happy type guys who are chomping at the bit to get back to ■■■■ work, not those lads purely for financial reasons, but the type who can not bear to be away, because they are at their happiest. :unamused:…and are missing pushing their tanks :unamused:  , it’s a bonus if you enjoy your job, but I mean…Ffs.

If ever the phrase ‘‘You need to get a life’’ applied, it is in that case, but I suppose it takes all sorts, and everyone is different. I accept that.
If work was supposed to be anything more than a means to an end, the rich and upper classes would be doing it. :bulb:

I reckonI I’ve got somewhere around the thick end of about 10 years left in this ■■■■, if I could afford to finish it tomorrow, I would… (but I can’t so be thankful to have me on here for the test of that time Robfans.  )

I think a lot of drivers aren’t going to be going back to work; they just don’t know it yet. :frowning:

Yep, my son in law who had a cracking job, (AND an own account operator btw) has been told his firm is shutting down, and he’s been given notice.
Sign of the unprecedented times,… and as you say more to come.
Here’s me not entirely happy to start back, but when I see him I suppose I’m fortunate in comparison.

glad that cleared things up dd999 and I will take you up on your offer as and when… regards m.a.n rules…

Sorry for the temporary removal chaps, but this topic was reported TWICE.

The topic hadn’t degenerated beyond recovery, so I’ve removed some off-topic posts and the usual and very boring petty bickering and troll ‘outing.’ :unamused:

The Mod/Admin Team aren’t going to act as referees, so jakethesnake and dieseldog999 are kindly invited ( = strongly advised  ) to resolve their differences privately by PM in order to keep it off the forums for the benefit of all other posters PLEASE.

:bulb: BTW, we don’t care who started it!!

My present post is off-topic, but for informational purposes only, so no reply to this is needed. THANKS.

True Rob. Mikey (my neighbour a few houses down, cool guy) and I were chatting the other night - he’s the owner of an events business and has had millions of pounds worth of business cancelled since this started. His main event is Glastonbury and as you’ll probably be aware, that is cancelled along with everything else. 66 of his 81 staff are down to be laid off with likely more to follow. He usually utilises hundreds of temporary contractors for his bigger events as well - none of those will be hired. Luckily for him the business is pretty much debt-free so he can ride it out this year, but there are also a lot of fixed costs for equipment storage, vehicles etc so if we’re still in a similar state into next year it will be the end of his business. :astonished:

I think you’ll start to see the fall-out on here and other forums after June, people being laid off in large numbers and desperately trying to find any scraps of work they can get. Those with full-time permie jobs will be the lucky ones. The freight volumes aren’t going to magically jump back up to where they were - the whole reason for the furloughs - so companies aren’t going to be paying drivers for doing nothing, they will lay-off and not rehire again until such a time comes when the volumes improve - and that may never happen for a long time.

Definitely the case I think, once furlough is ended a lot of companies will be in the ■■■■.

My firm will be up the creek if the construction industry don’t pick back up , as one customer does cement facia cladding and tile board , other is the local factory of the Uk biggest cable manufacturer
We also do Pallet ways but there’s no money in that
