You will find that these companies using older gear are generally paid for and the balance sheet looks to be in profit.
It’s a company which has new trucks on HP who tend to fall into differculties with cash flow when the work gets quiet.
Also the company that uses older trucks will employ their own fitters and have spare trucks to allow for vehicles off the road for repairs.
Just like us. We were running G reg Fodens until early 2005 and were still good motors.

we have a scania 143 1995 used as a spare when our own are in for repair. when not being used as a spare the boss has it out doing local work tipping and reloading trialers for montgomery refrigerated.
Also, for ages there was a non Streamliner Scania 113 (reg started P999 IIRC) of Armstrongs parked at Igglsund Paperbound, I thought the Streamliner replaced the regular 3 Series.
Up until last year we had a couple of EC11’s on the road. X & V reg. nice to drive every once in a while, more than 4 days in a row and the charm soon went

Didn’t actually replace it mate, it was just an option you could have.
I’ve got a '99 T 85CF 380 4x2 by the way, it’s fully road legal but doesn’t get out of the gate too often

A Buckingham based OD we use runs a K reg Foden 3000 series with 325Perkins. Not quick or immaculate but as the OD says “Paid the same rate as a new one, and bought with cash.”
Carries more than other 8wheelers too.
