i think our own industry is our own worst enemy, i prefer to see a passing vehicle in my windscreen before i flash him in, not as he’s still passing my door ! & to be honest how many trucks do you see with the old HGV L plates ?
None.
back then drivers were trained while driving & doing the job as opposed to today where someone passes a test & then trained to do the job.
Ziffy:
I dont give a rats ■■■ if you feel a draw bar requires more skill or not, your still a glorified rigid, end of story. For me you are the bane of my life, and i know its not just me that you lot seem to pull out on, just as we overtake down hill, or whilst we’re goin up hill, just like the poxy know it all car driver.
Oh and before you say it, yes artic drivers do it as well, just not as often.
But then being a biker and artic driver i’m always gonna hate car drivers. especially those little [zb] that think they have the right to police the stretch of road i’m using.
Obviously you have had some problem(s) with rigid drivers somewhere, but to tar all with the same brush smacks of an underlying anger issue. I drove rigids for years (I’m a recent Class 1) and I always try and drive with courtesy and respect. Just like someone else said, it costs a lot of money now to move onto Class 1 (and then maybe time to get the work!) - some people are maybe ‘stuck’ on Class 2 because of this. I’m guessing in your day you were able to go straight from car to Class 1 passing some easy test, yeah? I’ll tell you what, some of the Class 1 drivers I see are driving pretty poorly, doing really dangerous and stupid things. There are good and bad with everything in every walk of life.
Just like the proverbial ’ {insert German car manufacturer here} driver ’ - yes, a fair degree of them are &"^$£*%, but some actually aint all bad. And your very own bikers as well, fair enough a lot are injured or killed due to other drivers not seeing them. But a lot also put themselves in considerable danger by the way they choose to ride!

I was in love at that time and had one willing and waiting for me back home!
Driving one of those Luton Vans you deserve all the respect for the great patience shown, you do not know the meaning of “head wind” until you have driven one
Its all down to limiters… think about it, the frustration, cannot get passed anyone, when you do you are going about 1mph faster, etc. etc. the 500hp can get you up to 50mph in no time then you are governed, like hitting a brick wall, affects joining motorways, affects everything… just plain stupid.
Spend all that money to pass your test and they believe your brain isn’t working well enough to be your own limiter
Holy smoke Batman, it is annual thread ressurection Robin.

There has been a few threads and comments on here about how, and why, the standards and calibre of truck drivers have declined over the last 10 to 20 yrs, or so. You know the ones the DWLs (Dicks with licences) who keep you out in the middle lane for miles after you have pulled over ONLY to let THEM out, the smartarses that don’t need to be flashed in because "they know EXACTLY where the back of their trailer is "
(but actually prove they don’t when you have to brake to keep your mirrors and grille
) ,the ones who can’t be arsed to flash you in, even in bad visibility, the 56mph men in thick fog, the agressive tailgaters who give us ALL a bad name, the ones who try and put the knob in a car who has just cut them up into the hard shoulder even though he has his kids with him, we even have hgv middle lane hoggers now, the ones who would rather die than give way to you and lose 2 minutes, those who sit in their cab when a driver with a flat is struggling to fold his sheets on his own in a hurricane.
I could rattle on for ages with more examplesand yeh… I know a lot of these points have been already discussed on here to death, and with that in mind let’s put them to bed by having a DWL “amnesty”
, where somebody admits to being one of these superstars and explains why they do it, and other wiser and more experienced drivers will try and explain the errors of their ways, and that’s it …no more said…fresh start
ALL of us on here can’t be proper “drivers” in terms of consideration to others, it’s against the law of averages…So come on who on here has the Davina McCalls to own up …Me?? …well I’m the perfect model driver
…end of

Hi Rob . I don’t bother flashing drivers in anymore, mainly because they’ve already pulled back in before I would’ve flashed them
but also because they should know where the end of their vehicle is
(blah blah blah camaraderie, blah blah blah, this is the problem with drivers of today, blah blah blah). The exceptions are wet conditions when spray/fogged up mirrors could be affecting their vision, or when the sun is low directly behind us and you can’t see ■■■■ in the mirrors apart from silhouettes.
As for the rest of your gripes, not guilty as I’m a good boy
.
See once upon a time long long ago being a driver meant a little bit more than knowing when to pull in when overtaking, knowing how to steer them “big 18 wheelers” and all that bull that really a monkey can bloody do.
See once upon a time you didnt need some feker to hold your hand every time something went ■■■■ up,once upon a time you knew the job be it flat, container, box or whatever and when something went wrong you used a little common sense and knowledge.
See once upon a time I would not have some dik tell me he was in the middle lane of the M40 at 5.30 am and telling me his trailer brakes had locked on and not have the slightest idea what the hell was wrong with it then telling me he was not “stupid” as he had checked the red line was still on but not checked the mavis rail lockout valve as the dumb sob had not put the dog clip on the rail to lock it in run position before he left the yard.
See thats the difference, once upon a time people who came into the job wanted to know about the job now they are mainly a/holes who cant get a job pushing a pen or wearing a uniform so they become a “truck driver”
Thats why things have gone down hill.

I was clearly correct about the 20th title though I like how you didn’t quote that part nice touch there
