Dry those eyes people, or do something else for a job.
I’m afraid I have been guilty of staying in the middle lane if there is another lorry up ahead.
I wonder if it is the “rushing about” (chasing job & knock) that lends itself to laxer standards of driving?
If I’m to be considered “just some supermarket pleb limited to 50”, then look at those tearing on the 56-60 range through the roadworks and all, just so they can make some time on a “flat 8” or whatever?
I’d rather take my time, stay within the law at all times, and get paid 10 hours for a job that someone else might well do in 8, but why does it upset so much?
I had a regular shift once in 2007 that involved me finishing at 10am, with 2 hours overtime booked, OR “job & knocking it” and finishing at 07:45 on an 0800 finish, and then taking over an hour to get home across town (20 mins coming in at night) through the morning rush hour traffic…
Less is more, and sometimes more is less hassle. The roads for going home are nice and quiet by 10am. The customer says "Can you take that (awkward to get stuff at the far end of the yard as opposed to the stuff right next to the bay) then I stick up “No probs” and just get on with it. Hanging around some so-called rest room drinking tea isn’t my style - I’d rather just keep myself busy, and hanging it out not by hiding in the canteen, but doing some job that everyone else has cut the corner on, 'cos it would mean them finishing after 8am official finish time. Some don’t like to book Overtime it seems.

Job and knock certainly affects my driving. It’s an unwritten rule that seems to have dug in to everyone where I work, that if you are last back you are the worst driver I’ll be bearing that in mind in the future and ■■■■ what the TM says.
Yes, sometimes you can be the last one actually DUE back, and still be considered “crap” should you not elect to “carve it up”!
The scene is like:
8pm. TM office. 5 drivers on various finishes from 20:30 to 22:00.
TM:
“We’re just waiting for Winny now Then we can all go home. He’s the last one, due back at 21:00”
Waiting Driver:
“Well, if he ain’t back in 15 minutes, I’ll be putting a turd in his sleeping bag!”

Not quite … same job, different company. How did you guess?
ill admit to overtaking a co-op artic most mornings!..on a single carriageway.i drive an 18ton scania,
call me what you like but for people that know the area i normally get behind it at Diss from the A140 and we head east down the A143 this is usually around 0630-0645.
my first drop is usually in lowestoft or yarmouth and quite a few times i’ve stayed behind it @38-40mph all the way.obviously if the visibility is poor or road conditions wet then i wont go for it.
i drive this road 5-6 days a week so i feel i know the safest places to overtake
call me a nob or whatever, but i dont sit on his arse i dont cut in and yes for the 40ish miles of single carriageway i will probably be doing 45-50 where SAFE TO DO SO.
yes im on job and finish, and not hourly paid!
sitting back waiting for the do gooders to slaughter me…

i dont think there is a single driver that hasn’t done at least 2 of the mentioned items, i hate rigid drivers with a passion, they are all [zb] in my book. and are either claiming to learn the job or are too scared to drive artics. btw that’s all rigids, that includes you Mr wagon and drag (glorified rigid)
That’s a bit harshe mate, I drive a rigid but have my class one licence, I treat all professional drivers with the same courtesy I.e flash drivers in, give people the gaps they need. At the end of the day I’m not paid as a class 1 or class 2 driver, so… Give me a van, 7.5t, rigid, drawbar, artic. I’ll drive it… I’m a driver with HGV entitlement…

Not harsh more like just from the point of view of someone who’s never actually driven a drawbar outfit.
The fact is it takes (a lot) more skill to drive (or at least reverse) a (real) drawbar outfit than an artic.

I always feel sorry for agency drivers in jobs like this.
It’s job & knock at our place and agency drivers have an unfair reputation of being crap just because they can’t get the job done anywhere near as quick as the company drivers. Some of the runs in our place push us regular drivers who know the job & drops off the back of our hands, so the TM shouldn’t really be surprised that an agency driver with no directions (retail deliveries, so we are talking impossible to find loading bays in town centres etc.) and little induction to the job goes out and struggles.

I’ll own up to going into lane 3 on the A1M or whatever it is now, been following 2 willy wavers for 10 miles, holding a convoy of 4 artics a car & trailer several rigids and 2 coaches, so being limited to 93 (on the GPS) I went round then plonked myself in lane 1 and slowly dropped 10 clicks, both willy wavers came by single file but so did a Stobbies, Warburtons the Megabus driver let me back out and I got a thumbs up from all 3 .
Must be my fault as I always get the blame for everything even when not there
My only real annoyance is the numbtie your about overtake pulls into lane 2 infront of you knowing your going faster than he/she and nearly always on approaching a long hill climb! Parcel trunk! All this overnight aswell!
I own to causing a minibus full of kids to almost riot on the A40 once; I was following a 'bus from an Oxfordshire school for “behavioural problems” (loony tunes) when they started waving. I waved several times until I got fed up with their increasingly crazy expressions so I gave a few 2 finger rises to stop them… They went skizo, were practically pushing the windows out with their faces. They pulled into a layby and I went past ■■■■■■■ myself with laughter.
Right, cue the manufactured outpouring of abuse…
Seriously, tell me you didn’t give a two finger salute to the “sunshine happy bus” did you?
I dont give a rats ■■■ if you feel a draw bar requires more skill or not, your still a glorified rigid, end of story. For me you are the bane of my life, and i know its not just me that you lot seem to pull out on, just as we overtake down hill, or whilst we’re goin up hill, just like the poxy know it all car driver.
Oh and before you say it, yes artic drivers do it as well, just not as often.
But then being a biker and artic driver i’m always gonna hate car drivers. especially those little ■■■■■ that think they have the right to police the stretch of road i’m using.

No it was a local school for the “misunderstood”…

Thanks for your comment I wish I could be as good as you and drive a big truck but I will stick to my rigid because I carnt afford to run a big truck for peanuts so I will drive a rigid and earn a very good living and yes I have proberly forgot more than you now
