Yes FInaly done it. Passed my class 2 test last tuesday. Bit the bullet and resigned from my job so i can jump in the hot seat.
Had one interview already, but dont think i got that one as they never bothered to call me back (Sorry mate will have to have a word with our insurer to see if he will insure you). Have got another interview lined up for next week (fingers crossed) have also signned up with a few agencies. So i’m hoping that i will be driving real soon.
I’m a little nervous about driving for the first time, a leap into the big unknown, will i be able to do that, can i do this, what will other drivers think of me etc etc.
Well done , my first ever driving job was 2 days after I passed my class 2 and I found it a lot easier than my lessons! although you never stop learning.
Thanks for all your replys, Yes i do plan to do my class 1, but did think i would be better off getting some driving under my belt first. I must admit, I have been a little dismayed by some people (not on here). Everyone has been telling me that the industry is suffering from a shortage of drivers, yet they wont employe me or put me the agency books because i dont have experiance■■?. I was at loss of words with one agency when they told me “sorry mate no chance”.
Still i do believe that someone out there has a plcae for me, and that I will get to go driving.
Have not done agency work so cannot comment on them but as for other work, like I said above I got a class 2 job straightaway, I also got an offer straight after passing class 1 so there are jobs out there. As I’m sure you realise you may have to take low paid jobs at first just make sure they are running legal. Good luck
As has been mentioned on here before, there are jobs out there you just have to find them.
I just opened the yellow pages and started phoning around companies and asked if they had any jobs. It worked cos I got one.
Some on here have even said to pack your gear (hi viz, safety boots, overnight kit etc) in the car and go knocking on doors. “I’ve got me kit in the car, I can start NOW”

well done on the pass mate… You will find it hard to find your first job as its catch 22, no job with no experience, but no experience with no job…
But keep looking and you’ll find something…

Well, i’ve had my first job (Agency Driving) out of West Thurrock, 5 drops in Essex, Easy day I thought. How wrong could I be…
After arriving at 11.45am (bang on the time I said i would arrive), I ended up waiting for 2 hours for them to find me a lorry and delivery. First drop in Colchester, 2nd in Witham and 3rd in CHelmsford, all went OK, apart from the stores moaning that I was late (about 8hous late) 4th and 5th drops were a nightmare, both closed so could not do the drop. They ended up going back to the depot with me. The next day the agency called to ask why i did’nt complete… Told them for starters being held up for 2 hours without a lorry didnt help.
Oh well. At least i’ve done my first job. Just got to get my car sorted out so I can do the second (but thats another story)
