FFS!..That personifies all that is wrong with this job today
, “company policies”
, that are devised by some ■■■■■■ in an office who knows zb all about the job, trying to justify his 35 grand+ job by dreaming up bloody stupid ideas that are not neccessary, absolute ■■■■■■■■■ s!!!
Flashing another lorry in is just a polite thing to do, it’s not required and is actually not a legal sign that you have cleared the vehicle you just passed. Most trucks over here are longer than in the UK, the average is 72 feet and I rarely take note of the lights of anyone I pass here because most of them are ignorant morons anyway, trust your sense of distance and not the other driver, it’s so easy to judge when you are well clear, if it’s not that easy to judge then you have no business driving a lorry in the first place. Look for the shadow in your mirrow for instance, when it is well clear it is safe to pull in, if you can see all of the tront end of the veicle you just passed and also the rear of your trailer, it should be easy to see when you are clear. I dont take any notice of the idiots around here anyway
Our company has NY Thruway double’s 125 feet long and even with those it’s easy to judge when you have passed by enough. It’s no different to reversing on to a dock or in a space really, you should be able to stop exactly on thet dock without actually hitting it.
My merc only does 84 kph so I only flash those that do 85 kph. Most of the 90 ks drivers don’t wait long enough and chop in as if I asked personally for my lorry to bed drilled down to hold everyone up. Usually the morons who were trying to hold out an overtaking truck and I’ve been used to make them back off

Otherwise whenever and whoever I feel like mainly depends on whether I am awake and concentrating

when i took my class 1, i wasn’t sure if i should flash someone in on the motorway, my instructor said i should, so i did, then i said “what about on my test”? he told me to do it, as it shows i am curtious to other road users, even though it’s not in the rules as such.

No its not it’s stupid! We are all going in the same direction and who in their right mind wants 44 tonnes of truck to crash into the back of when it all comes to a grinding sudden stop. Stay as far away from the accident as possible is my motto and dont invite people into a space you might just need. As for those who insist on pulling in when the back of their vehicle is 2 cms past the vehicle they have just overtaken (flashed in or not),dont - thats even more stupid. I dont care how many cars or trucks and other assorted impatient git’s have to wait a few seconds for you to clear. As I said we are all going in the same direction.
The main reason there are so many collisions on motorways is due to the fact people drive too close to other vehicles, so there is no chance to brake or get out of the way when things go wrong.

I understand everything you are saying but my whole point is that if the driver passing you can’t judge when it’s safe to pull back in he has no right holding a driving licence in the first place… I always flash drivers in after they pass me and have done since I first passed my HGV1 in 1975.
My new truck doesn’t let me drive too close ! it puts the brakes on … set on cruise it keeps 290 ft away at 65 mph, if the vehicle in front slows down so does my truck, if it speeds up so does my truck … it’s very annoying

your version of a good driver differs quite a bit from what others think, so i would consider your version to be on the lines of “driving without consideration to other road users”.
Turned down to 52mph I don’t bother.I would get RSI on the M6 or M1.
Anyone travelling at 56mph wont need a flash in against my 52.
If there is any slow overtakers, which is rare,I flash them in.
I asked the wife for a flash and got told to 'k off.

When at sea use all and any means of reference for safe navigation. I maintain that to act on what you think a flashing headlamp may mean on the road is sheer stupidity. Make your own choices, you are the one responsible and whilst you may think its inconsiderate not to flash, its not classed as inconsiderate when we get into the fine print of the Road Traffic Act.

That was Thursday night, I’d worked overtime and got huge bonus
Slightly different reaction when I asked while sorting the washing.
Flashing in isn’t very sensible when passing slip-roads when you consider the number of people who think they have priority to join above those allready on the main carriageway.
I have just seen an advert for camera called Car Black Box sits on the dash & every thing that goes on in front is recorded, It cost a £100.00. But very handy when you get the tossers that overtake & cut in to quick causing us to slow down to widen the gap, In my opinion people that drive in this manner are just totaly brain dead & should not be driving at all.
It’s nice to be nice sometimes, I flashed in a little 7.5 t sleeper cab about a month ago near Chester, well a few miles down the road and I pull in for my daily rest, and there is the lad in the 7.5t, we got chatting and he told me I was only the second truck to flash him in all day, turned out to be a good evening, a few beers and a cab cooked curry shared!
I don’t need a flash, but it is surely welcome when there is very heavy spray if only to confirm your own judgement, same goes if you have the sun blinding you in the mirrors early morning / late evening.
Still get knobheads who flash you in after half a trailer length, i make a point by sitting in the middle lane for another 600 yards
