Hi all.theoretically me too as the big mining company has given out new contracts for the new year and the spedition we pull for has lost work.but asking my boss he said,whoever takes the contract they need trucks and drivers,maybe we paint the trucks and put other stickers on.even if that doesn’t happen i have already had two phonecalls offering me work.added to that,they are opening another mine near to the finish border and combined with the shortage of people we already have ,they think that some of the guys from kiruna and gällivare will go to the new mine to be nearer home as many come from the border area.so it’s not all doom and gloom.take care.mike

Had no work with the agency last January/February,saved up enough to have a bit of R&R.

My son !. He decided that £250 per week ( 7 days on / 2 off ) shift on heavy recovery wasn’t enough for him to support him & his partner & baby in the New Year so has jumped ship & is going to the agencies .

Cant he get working tax credit & working child tax credit ( not the ideal but it helps a lot as there are a lot of other benefits from this )

Me and two others as of 31st December. Enhanced redundancy cushioned the blow a little. And to top it all I had a big operation a couple of weeks ago and won’t be fit till around March. Still eh, at least I have this place to entertain me

Yes he can but the lad wants to work, and the Company he works for has been taken over and they seem to be winding down the southern based operation and having lost the Police contract things are quiet, and he didn’t spend his hard earned getting his licences to sit around on his ar** . I know thats unusal for the younger generation
I had my licence revoked on Nov 26th, so that stuffed Christmas and everything else up. The letter said I have epilepsy - It was certainly news to me, , the neurologist I saw waaaayy back in April didn’t even bother to let me know, but he found the time to tell DVLA. It was clear from the off he didn’t like lorryists cos as soon as he knew what I did for a living, he woulnd’t stop bloody moaning about us,
I plan to appeal anyway, and can apply for my car licence back in January so it’s not all bad.

So sorry to here this I had quite the opposite you could tell them you not happy & would like a second opinion then chose a different hospital
My son who was made redundant last May managed to get what was said to be a 6 month contract delivering bottled gas that he started 3 weeks ago.
Monday this week he was told not to come in again as the company could not get the gas supplies it needed to refill the bottles,so they sent back the hired truck,which my son was driving,and sent him home.
What can you say?
