Who we share the roads with ? Pt 2

Last Monday around 2200hrs I was travelling South on the A34 heading to Chichester and I’d gone past the Milton Park exit/on slip, so it must have been the next on slip that I backed off the CC a few Kliks to let a car on that was joining move into the gap between me and the vehicle in front, but for some reason this car driver decided to keep their foot down and force the car in front of me to straddle the white lines and lo-an-behold I then had 3 cars abreast infront of me on a 2 lane road :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :smiling_imp: :unamused:

None of them seemed prepared to give an inch in any way and all of us were travelling at 50mph except me who was behind the knobheads and ready to take evasive action if necessary but could have easily been caught up in any incident they may have caused :exclamation: :exclamation: :unamused: :smiling_imp:

Anyways got to Chichester in one piece but the above incident made me think long and hard about other road users and that includes other so called ‘vocational drivers’ who now frequent our roads in much greater numbers and don’t understand that when joining any road it is their responsibilty to adjust their speed to the prevailing traffic conditions :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

You know who you are :exclamation: :exclamation: but then again maybe you don’t :open_mouth:

Stay safe out there guys

Trouble is Dave, most of this [zb] is caused by truckers! If they all stopped moving out to the next lane everytime they came to a joining ramp then other vehicles (including other truckers) would not expect you to move over for them every time and adjust their speed accordingly.

Yes in an ideal world everyone would drive like a pro and have the courtesy to ease off if someone moves over to help you join, but the reality is that it rarely happens and you get taken for a mug.

Slightly off topic but relevant to the subject.

It gets me why we drive whilst tired? We have all probably done it and gotten away without serious consequence! It brought it home to me today how stupid it is, I was following a M&S truck about 4.30am today, he/she was weaving a touch just going past junction 16 M1, by the time we approached 15a he/she was on the hard shoulder completely, he/she nearly went off the road until they recovered and had to indicate to come back on the M1. If something had have broken down on the hard shoulder I shudder to think what may have happened! With recent events(whether fatigue was an issue or not) Iwill certainly pull over rather than push on, for the sake of a 30 minute kip! Is it worth it?

I’m with you on this RobK; It is a real wind up when other ‘truck drivers’ leave you hung out in lane 2 when you have moved over either to let them on or to pull an overtake :imp: :imp:

My truck is limited at 53mph and it takes some concentration to keep with the flow but these days I really don’t move lane to let anyone join, unless I can do it safely and I feel sure they are not going to hang me out, they have to adjust their speed :exclamation: :exclamation:, to join in front or behind me. I do knock the CC down a few Kliks sometimes though to let people move into a space as long as they understand what their right foot is for, ACCELERLATION, :exclamation: :exclamation: :open_mouth:

:open_mouth: :open_mouth: Now come on Dave, you’re asking a lot there. :unamused:

Ok Ok Ok RobK;   I know I might be asking a lot but I’ve alway’s felt that most fella’s who have managed to obtain a HGV licence should have a bit more insight than most into everyday diving :exclamation: :exclamation:   :unamused:

dave, you know as much as me, that some truck drivers must have got their license from a lucky bag.
