,i have not heard that for so long yeh",keep her off the knuckle", not many here will now what that means you may get some strange repls…you must be a tad older than me first trip 6/1960 sorry we are going off on the ■■■■ i can see that coming, what some great days though, mind i have had the same up the road on european get the right blokes together, a few sippers, then off for the chow, the bingo ,old days back again however you will always got the odd one,who did not really fit in and end up with a smack, how many times did you know your mates so well, that you just kept that little bit of distance as you know once the old dropped towards the table ,they would leap up and start trying to knock the ■■■■ out of you…i would wait until they had flaked out in the old bunk, or the mess table then give them one ■■■-king good wallop.then to bed all mates in the morning…happy trucking…i would class men on companies i worked for in this category, would i like to be in a life boat with them, simples .

backsplice:
I ,ve noticed the odd remark that makes me think the poster had been to sea !!! I know a couple of lads who took up lorry driving after a stint in the MN myself included !! I think it must have been the relative freedom of the job !!..I just wonder how many of us regulars here fit that bill ■■

I guess "deckboypeggy " was one anyway !!

I was not in the Merchant Navy I was in the Royal navy from 72 to 79 and I cant say too much about it as I am still traumatised and covered by the Offical Secrets Act.Regards Todd ex Submariner

R Jimski

Yes JIMSKI quite a few men who flew the nest at a early age,and moved into a mans world probably to young, and enjoyed all the exotic life style while there siblings were still under the mothers apron have paid the price with ill health…to much of everything to early , myself also.
If anyone is looking for my next installment ,problems with the text are not solved.however it is being worked on,Bewick by a right hander…lol

DBP … I flew the nest at 15 …got my Dr license at 21 drove an old Albion for an agricultural engineer while in between ships …learned the hard way did,nt take it up full time until about 65/66 after swallowing the hook but in 70 saw a couple of lads coming out of the pool in Aberdeen that was it for me packed my seabag and was off 10 days later

yep BACKSPLICE,i like many others probably have lots of thoughts i should have gone back to the pool, however i did realize most of the older men in their 35/40s were ■■■■■■■■■ ,so i stopped ashore and lived with my decision the right one for me…but i have had a good working life and family.i have even got over the" up the road"i do not see many trucks .well this year i took a chance and went to the PETERBOROUGH TRUCK FEAST THE FIRST TIME EVER…2 hours there and i was home, 160 mile drive,i could not believe such utter glorification of lorry driving…utter ■■■■■■■■. never again…

I bet there were not any BLUE FUNNEL JOBS at the pool in Aberdeen .good old heavy ships both companies.
Would you remember MUNROS from Aberdeen
