Like I said, in your first post on the thread you mention stacking shelves, then you mention drivers shagging around, seems a bit like a trolling post to me, but everyone’s entitled to their opinion
Nope, can’t see any of that in his first post, which was, in full…
truc123:

Bloke only asked a question mate, bit harsh to accuse him of trolling isn’t it?
Thought that my self, chip on ones shoulder comes to mind
It’s called saying it as I see it, sometimes my opinions will differ from others and while some of you disagree with me, there will be many others who don’t Another thing that I have an opinion about are people who have only a handful of posts on these forums making remarks about chips on shoulders, when their only contribution to the thread are statements about chips on shoulders, in this case, because it will not do anything to enhance anybody’s pleasure, I will keep my opinion to myself while I make a gesture of shaking a coffee bean in my loosely clenched fist in the direction of my computer screen
So, to summarise, I reckon this is a silly thread and I think that because of silly statements like, earning more stacking shelves and all trampers are shagging around, or words to that effect, they may not have been in the first post, as I previously stated (thank you for pointing that out Harry, nice to know you’re looking out for me ) but they were there and as the post was one of the first by the OP, I think it’s a wind up, it isn’t a harsh accusation, to make an accusation I would require evidence, it’s just my opinion. HTH

Thats one more post mr moderator are you happy
Yes, I’m happy, can’t remember the last time I was unhappy, probably the last time I watched Lassie
Oh and BTW, stars and other symbols cannot be used to substitute letters in swear words, you may want to bear that in mind for your next posts
Now behave or things will get serious and I’ll put my caps locks on
A show-off,a loud mouth,a ‘look at me’. I’ve done this and I’ve done that. Now I live in Canada and I’m still bloody brilliant!!! Look at me god! I’m famoussssssssss! You Newmercman are nothing more than a braggart.

I switch off when one or two of the ex pats start contributing to a thread.
Exactly. I don’t constantly go on their forum to tell them that I wouldn’t live in Canada, I have no idea why they keep popping up here to say they wouldn’t operate a truck.

This is a thread about trampers having affairs and being able to earn more stacking shelves in Morrisons, no mention of not operating a truck anywhere, until you brought it up
Maybe the OP’s girlfriend does have a point though, after all I don’t think the shelf stackers need tax credits to make their wages up to a reasonable level
Don’t try and put words into my mouth Harry, I have never said anywhere that I wouldn’t operate a truck, I may have said I wouldn’t operate a truck under certain circumstances and I base this on experience of having operated multiple trucks of my own. I do have strong views on the subject, I think that if half the dreamers who do actually make it as real Owner Drivers were not in the industry then it would be a far better place, as for the other dreamers who only dream about toplines, super space cabs, flash paint jobs and light bars, well do I really need to spell it out In the middle are people who may actually become succesful, as long as they get some of the silly ideas out of their head, ideas like paying through the nose for main dealer servicing, setting accounts up with tacho analysers, truck washes, Max clifford running their PR for them blah blah blah, it’s a dog eat dog world out there and if any prospective Owner Driver is going to get upset over a few harsh words on an internet forum, well they won’t last 5mins in the real world will they
Shame you don’t want to come to Canada Harry, if you reconsider, please let me know, I’ll make sure I’m at the airport to meet you, then we could find out if you are as much of a Rambo in real life as you are with your keyboard

I’m very sorry that you feel that way, I will now completely change to ensure that you (and others) like me from now on, well I would, except I don’t care, not one little bit, seriously, not even in the slightest. HTH
So the conclusion is there’s no point in starting up as an owner driver unless there’s at least a 20% profit margin in the job on top of the wages.Which then leaves the choice of getting a job stacking shelves at the supermarket if not.
Which, assuming her indoors won’t accept living with anyone who does distance work, would obviously be a plus point as long as the shelf stacking doesn’t involve a lot of overtime and/or the possibility that she might face some competition from a teenaged check out bird and especially if theres any suspicion that the overtime is just a cover for some after work socialising with said check out bird/s.
Added to all that is the issue, which I’ve raised elsewhere, that the government wants as much long haul road transport taxed off the road and put onto rail which makes the chances of having to take that shelf filling job even higher.
In which case zb’ing off to Canada might be a better option.
What are tax credits? I’m self employed.(Not unemployed, as our resident hero makes out with snide remarks) I earn and I pay tax whilst claiming for nothing. EVER. Does this mean that my hard earned tax that I pay, goes to help wannabes who don’t have a Scooby Doo about running a business, so I end up bailing them out with my tax? You don’t see me giving it the big one here!

Your a fool man all successful business concerns use tax avoidence and dodgy accounting to save paying tax. Starbucks tesco owner drivers etc.
If I set up as one I’d work for a pittance to get tax credits. Who cares about making a profit when you can rob the government.

As someone who knows newmercman personally I can assure you he is none of the above. But reading the op there is no mention of been a widower.
