Who saw...

The foreign lorry (Lithuanian i think)

Driving Northbound M40 from Banbury around 12:30pm today with its front right curtain pole hanging out, possibly broken and trailer not in a good state

Didnt seem phased when couple of lorry drivers tried telling him

Was tempted to phone to police but didnt wana pull over on hard shoulder since phone was in pocket and only so much you can do :sunglasses:

Oh VOSA where art thou ?

Didn’t see it, but it is legal to use a handheld mobile to make a call to the emergency services whilst mobile.

Whether or not this instance would fall into the emergency bracket would be for a Man United lawyer to argue!

Best action in those circumstances is to stop and call using the emergency phone on the hard shoulder.

The person who picks up the phone will know instantly WHERE you are and will be able to SEE the offending lorry on a screen in front of them, and know the location of the nearest HA, VOSA and police which they can send to the scene.

Far, far quicker than dialling 999 or the non-emergency number and having to recite all your details then explain where you are who you need to speak to, why etc.

I’ve done it: to report debris on the motorway that tore a trailer tyre on a truck that was in front of me; woman in the control room said it was exactly the right thing to do rather than use the mobile phone.

helpful info thumbs up
