I was working in a bakery during that Summer.I used to cycle to work about 10 miles from Dundee to Carnoustie.I couldnt do it regularly nowadays.
I was 12, my Sister was 6, and my late Mum and Dad had a static at Amble in Northumberland, and I distinctly remember being there every weekend when Dad came home from work.
Glorious carefree days, the likes of I’ll never see again, as I’m now the current working generation, and providing for my own daughters and grandson, but would I turn the clock back if I could?
Bloody too right I would.

Yep, remember it well, having to queue for the standpipe!!!
Snap… except ours wasn’t a standpipe it was a bowser bought in every morning, Our water was provided by a small local company (long since taken over and amalgamated into one of the nationals) and had no way of topping up the reservoirs from other areas so had to buy in water to provide us. That summer just went on and on, the fields caught fire time and time again, I remember the tarmac off roads sticking to my shoes as we crossed them
I also remember playing out every day in that heat, with no dire warnings about dehydration, or being painted an inch thick with sun blocker, I burnt/tanned and peeled -sweated buckets but still seemed to have survived- maybe 14 year old lads of that era are a tad more resilient than todays mollycoddled youth

I remember it very well. I had just really got into rock climbing and spent almost the entire summer climbing and camping in the Peak District and north Wales , with an occasional hitch back to my parents for money and a change of clothes. Happy, happy days indeed.
Then I had to get a job!!!
fell asleep on the beach in Newquay & got sunstroke , had a suntan for two years after Lol !!
