You guys are mad. I own no transport company, I own no truck. There’s now way a penny of mine is going torwards parking. Mind you, other day hear a guy coming all proud because he bought some mirror protection for the company’s truck.
years ago our firm used have a account with nightowl whichcover wovles rugby carlisle and jenkinsons in penrih.then is got pull.only tiem they will pay parking if u got high value loads at certain truckstops which insurnace will cover.if u can make any depots u must head there.now they will cover upto 14 but ur nightout money goes to 19 instead of 26.20.so i only park when i need to or if heading or coming back from scotch at jenkinsons penrith.rest of time anywhere thats free but never with a full tank.told office ill fill up in morning when i started but u be late tough crap pay parking or get snap then ill be on time

Christ almighty, is this a serious question. If you had to pay for your own parking then you would have a wage packet that resembles a dole cheque at the end of the week. It virtually does now in a lot of cases but come on, seriously who would expect to pay their own parking!!!
Well…yes it is and by the response it appears that people are expected to pay it. Hence my question.
Just to be clear, my question came about due to reading posts which allude to paying for parking out of night out expences.
I don’t pay if I ever have to park in a services, I’ll get the money back if I park in a truckstop. Mostly pay on the fuel card if I can. Most parking on the continent is free, its only this dump it ever needs thinking about.
Interesting, I can name (but wont) three companies I’ve worked for in the past that don’t pay parking (or at least they didn’t a decade ago), one of those three would if you had a high value load and only then if they’d OK’d it first but that was rare in fact we’d often park in a predetermined yard like Irlams (now Stobarts) just off J15 of the M6 for example.
My current firm have snap I believe but as I’m nights that doesn’t effect me.
At times we carry some valuable loads. Company won’t pay any parking. I sometimes wonder if this invalidates there insurance. As im.guessing small.print says need park someware safe secure etc…
If parking every night at services that it is will cost for company about 120 per week or 6000 per year.If criminal stolen diesel couple time that company can lost 1-2grant but anyway much more cheap that services
I wonder what happened to the Float we used to get prior to going away…if they dont give me the money in advance…the truck goes in a layby…but in saying that working for a foreign firm has its advantages…i dont pay…why should drivers have to pay out of their own pocket, to fund the parking for someones elses truck…not me mister…and having to wait a week, or a month to get YOUR money back…it aint my truck…end of.
I think it was Nestle - their drivers used to set up a bank account with a £500 float that they could use for parking, minor repairs, tolls, truck wash, screen wash - basically anything work related.
All they did was hand in the receipts and Nestle topped up the account.
I thought it was a great idea and saved carrying or losing a cash float.
I have a company credit card. Company pays full parking fees and also pays for the evening meal.
I think in this day and age any company that refuses to pay for there drivers to have the ability to get a shower, use a toilet and get a hot meal are lining their own pockets at drivers expense.
Can’t understand in this day n age how any co can get away with leaving drivers to take pot luck with parking, surely your employer has a duty of care to ensure your time of work allows you to spend it with access to toilets n washing facilities■■?
Lol back in the real world…also paying out n claiming back expenses, why give them an interest free loan■■?

I dont see what the big hoo haa is about company must pay or I wont work there.
Spent many a night in an industrial estate or layby. Bit of foward planning and you get a better nights kip.
Much prefer it to the few times I have parked in services due to carrying wide loads (shock horror, I even used beacons)
I totally agree all a big fuss. I honestly prefer parking in estates laybye etc. No humming of traffic on the motorway. Nice n quiet. Ok no facilities. But these days most estates have a weatherspoons beefeater in walking distance. Plus on a truck stop your kind of stuck there. Parking on an estate I can go for a good half hour walk jog round the block get some.much needed fresh air and exercise…cant do that at a truckstop
