So after someone mentioned Depoel on here and what they do (keeping wages down?)…
Who knew about them before now…?

I’ve known of them for over a decade, especially after I did a couple of agy stints at Tesco and Asda who are well known for being in cahoots with Depoel. If you’ve done searches you’ll find threads dated before then
And heres me thinking it was a german polish person

As apposed to a French polisher?
i always though its what filipe flop the famous french athlete holds ?
Wonder what would be said if / when at an agency office and I ask if they were ‘in’ with this depoel company…?
Wonder if they’d tell me F off, because I may have rumbled them that I (may) know that they’re keeping wages down…?
I heard of them 5 or 6 years ago when I was doing agency for Norberts, we were pushing for more money and were told rates couldn’t go up because Depoel were the ones who controlled the rates, is that still the case in agency work??
Didn’t that Daley Thompson fella work for them?
Must have been in finance/cashing up. Depoel vault.

No the only person who controls rates of pay is the driver, you accept the rate they pay it don’t accept it will go up. Depoel can control agencies to stop competition between each other but that’s all.

I get your point mate but if that was the case then we’d all be on £20+ per hour, if someone doesn’t want to work for the rate offered then somebody else will,

So Depoel can’t be blamed for keeping wages down if it’s the drivers who are willing to work for whats on offer. I did a run one sunday with two other drivers when we stopped at the services for a break they thought it was good getting £1 extra, i didn’t like to say i was getting £10 per hour more than them no Depoel there.

Could you not resist the temptation in telling them?
In simple terms I agree that what drivers command their own rate, but that comes at a price. It’s all very well saying to an agency your rate is X, but at the same time you have to prepare yourself for sitting at home waiting for the phone whilst the agency calls every other driver on their books first! That’s then maybe OK if you don’t actually need to see those wages hit the bank every week, but it doesn’t help the vast majority who have families and overheads that means they are just managing to stay afloat. Those people are compromised, whether it’s their fault or not, and as such have to guarantee they are not near the bottom end of call list the agency makes…

De Poels method of working is more about controlling drivers by getting agencies and clients to agree rates which are non-negotiable by drivers. An individual driver has little or no chance against a cartel like that.
Cartel; A cartel is a group of formally independent producers whose goal is to increase their collective profits by means of price fixing, limiting supply, or other restrictive practices. Cartels typically control selling prices, but some are organized to control the prices of purchased inputs. Antitrust laws forbid cartels; however, they continue to exist nationally and internationally, openly and secretly, formally and informally.

Link to Government site.
Found an interesting link in the government website that might be useful to any agency bod who fancies a pop at the restrictive practices of De Poel and many of their client agencies. You know the sort of thing, such as not being able to switch agency when working for a particular customer and being subject to a 12 week lockout etc…

Don’t think i can agree with that, everything is negotiable you just have to walk away if it’s not what you want. I worked agency for 7 years always PAYE never worked for less than £10 per hour always got holiday pay, i have had £32 per hour at Sainsburys when they have been short staffed.
With me i told the agency how much i wanted the time i will start and the type of work i will do and stuck to it and even though i left driving 4 years ago they still ring to see if i can do a shift for them

Was that before or after you abseiled from the roof?
Wonder what agency’s reaction / reply will be when you pay them a visit (interview?), and you ask them, ‘are you in any way connected to Depoel■■?’
Wonder if the reply will be something one the lines of 'oh F, they know we’ve got the rates ‘fixed!?’…
