Who is right boss or me

Coffee where are you

I’m here, don’t panic. :stuck_out_tongue:

The confusion is arising because people talk in terms of 15’s and 13’s. The regulations do not specify how many hours you can do in a day only how much rest is required in the 24-hour period which begins when you start work after a rest period, 11 hours which can be reduced to a minimum of 9 hours three times between weekly rest periods.

So, the two questions asked by carpboy.

  1. Can you reduce your daily rest 3 times in a row? Yes you can.

Forget the stuff about split rest in relation to the original question because you aren’t reducing in those circumstances you are increasing the amount of rest.

  1. Does working 13 hours and 15 minutes mean you have used one of your reduced daily rest periods? Yes it does - 13.25 hours + 11 hours = 24.25 hours. In this instance the driver will have taken a reduced rest of 10.75 hours, regardless of whether he actually takes longer than that.

Carpboy, if you boss insists that 13 hours 15 minutes does not constitute a reduced daily rest he must only have 2 brain cells, and as he is likely using one of them just for breathing and one just for standing upright there is nothing left for driver’s hours regulations, don’t trust him on anything to do with legal matters. :stuck_out_tongue:

Split Daily Rest■■? ARRRRGGGHHHHH  Too confusing

the easiest way to answer your question is you are right

all you need to tell you boss is

A driver may reduce his daily rest period to no less than 9 continuous hours, but this can be done
no more than three times between any two weekly rest periods, and no compensation for the
reduction is required.

a reduced rest is

A daily rest that is less than 11 hours but at least 9 hours long is called a
reduced daily rest period.
