daveb0789: small voice I drive a London suburban train - 60 mph maximum and I get very bored
Being as your qaulified Dave, why not try and get on with one of the freight operators up there, must be loads of em-- DBS, DRS, GB rail freight, Freight liner Heavy Haul etc.
London surburban passenger work would get anyone on the end of a rope i reckon.
Freight would be what i would look inot now if it were me.
How come your a train driver on a truck forum, you looking to jump?
Id stay where you are mate to be honest
Laser treatment isn’t allowed unfortunately. The only way into the tube is as a Customer Service Assistant (CSA) then apply to go driving internally. The tube is becoming automated so there won’t be much driving in the future. Check out the web link I posted earlier to see who has vacancies. London is the most likely place to offer jobs.
lanarkshire…
£10.75 6am-6pm £11-95 6pm-6am
£13.00 after 9 hrs and thats daily ! ( even if i only do 7 hrs next day my o/t is still in place)
£15.00 for working a rest day .
yet everyone on here slags “trolley dolly types” like we are some sort of inferior drivers .
we fought hard to get these T&Cs with a 100% unite membership .

I often look for tube and train jobs but can never find them
This site traindriver.org/train-operat … -jobs.html posted earlier here is probably your best bet but it makes getting on ADR tankers seem easy in comparison.
Most of the TOC’s (train operating companys) hardly ever take on 'off- the - street" . Maybe as it costs so much to train up new drivers and they dont want the responsability of a newbie in charge of hundreds of tons of train etc.
Anyway, how does 53 grand a year for a 35 hour week grab ya?? Looks like Ariva X-Country take the cake for the highest earners at the mo.
Gembo I’d just like to thank you and fellow truckers regarding your kind comments on train driving. As a coach driver I’m constantly criticised by fellow coach/bus driving colleagues who say we are overpaid for a job which involves no more than pulling a lever when they have to put up with driving a large vehicle and dealing with passengers.

No problem, Ive been on both sides of the fence and know what the job entails.
Who do you work for, First Capital conect, C2C ■■?

I am in northampton, and dont get anywere near that, I am driving class 2 though. I have got an interview for wincanton, at sainsburys, in the mornining down swan valley driving class 1. Hopefully better wages if i get the job. I wouldnt mind some of that £11 if there is jobs going?
Sainsburys is a rota based shift. Start times of shifts have two hour flex. Only get 2.5 weekends out of 7 to yourself. No overtime. Take home 430 perweek. Crap if you like a life. But shourt hours. Dont touch maritime in brackmills. Absolute cowboys.
time and a half all day saturday
double time all day sunday
^this. (Except weekend rates not as high)
It’s gone to utter pish - and probably will only get worse.
Shame really 'cos for the work we do and [zb] we have to put up with … you’d have thought we’d be entitled to a respectable wage at the very least…■■
I love driving (minus all the bloody legislation the EU forces in … bad attitude from ppl u face every day… lack of respect for your graft… etc…)
but to be honest I would move away from it now if I had another skill…
Im 29 years old and only driving for 7 years. But the changes iv seen i couldnt recomend the job to anyone. Constantly messed about and ignored. Used and abused. You have no life from monday morn thru to sat afternoon. Then get paid peanuts for the hours you do put it. 6-2 shift in a warehouse, keeps you fit, have a social life and drive every other sat. Thats my plans. Family and sanity is far more important!

I guess it was a wise decision on my part to leave Sainsbury on a wincanton contract, at the time the money looked good but you had no life & it was store work which really makes you want to put a bullet through your head. Some can take home more than that with no weekends but a bit more hours…

True that, one needs a social/family life, I believe it keeps you healthy too-work to live not live to work…! Anybody getting into this game would need their head examined!
