Who decided on 56mph for speedlimiters

starfighter:
Some simple climatology for you Carryfast.

The U.K. has a mild climate for its latitude due to the warming effect of the Gulf Stream ocean current.

Global warming is melting Arctic ice caps.

This produces an inrush of colder freshwater into the North Atlantic, affecting the ocean currents.

Loss of the Gulf Stream would lower the temperature in the U.K.

And sometimes the wind just blows from the East and makes it cold.

Typical global warming believer type bs.Firstly the Arctic ice cap breaks up every Spring and Summer and freezes up again during the Arctic winter months ( which is most of the year ) and the Gulf Stream seems to be working just fine according to this. However you can bet that ‘if’ global warming was really happening you wouldn’t be seeing photos taken from space that look like that together with reports of -15 temperatures as far South as Mexico. In addition to which as the photo shows the Antarctic ice sheet seems as solid as ever even in mid summer which doesn’t seem consistent with a so called ‘global warming’ scenario.

dailymail.co.uk/news/article … w-ice.html

While if the global warming believers were right it shouldn’t make any difference which way the wind was blowing because being so called ‘global warming’ it would be warmer everywhere at all times of the year, including the landmasses of North America and Eastern Europe/Asia,considering that large land masses respond to temperature changes ( assuming that they are happening ) faster, without the type of effects from the sea that Britain gets. While last but not least we wouldn’t be seeing winter weather throughout those landmasses and here, lasting well into the Spring.

The fact is the northern hemisphere as a whole is seeing colder global temperatures not warmer ones.Which is why we’re burning loads of fuel to keep warm in the Spring and often Summer months too. :unamused:

By the way this is where the bs theory that you seem to believe in came from in the 1970’s after Carl Sagan and his lot at NASA zb themselves when they saw what Venus looked like while conveniently forgetting that it’s atmosphere is a ‘bit’ different to Earth’s and it’s a ‘bit’ closer to the Sun.According to the believers back then we should be living in a heatwave all year round by now and they’ve been making excuses for their bs religion when the facts don’t fit the script ever since. :unamused:

Maybe you should learn to distinguish between a word of advice and an order maybe.

P.s do you just use random characters all over the place to make you(r)self see;m (sic) more intelligent?

When discussions took place regarding speed limiters, The speed limits for HGVs in Europe varied from 80kph to 100kph, The UK being 96. The problem on the table at the time was coaches. They all agreed that coaches and HGVs shouldn’t be set at the same limited speed for safety reasons.
They didn’t decide on 90kph/56mph, They decided on a limited speed of 52mph with a tolerance up to 56mph.

So what was wrong with just leaving things here as they were here before we joined the EU IE 60 mph for trucks and 70 mph for coaches. :bulb:

‘…The … government frequently us[e] opt outs when it suits … shows that you’re wrong…’

I wrote ‘…diktats…’ as distinct from options which permit ‘…opt-outs…’

However, 70% of diktats have undemocratically become imposed laws: How is that ‘…wrong…’

[Perhaps appreciate that the devil lies in the over-complex administrative detail (see the Lisbon Treaty) - which many dismiss as this nation sleeps: Meanwhile, former & often unelected communists (who now show-boat as liberalists) are undemocratically federalising the Former UK  ]

Carryfast:
‘…So from … ‘this’ issue … exactly what would have changed and what would be the difference under UKIP’s ( or your ) ideas…’

You ask for ‘…Exactly…’? So, not asking for much then :open_mouth:

For starters, the UK would not be giving £53 million pounds per day to fund, eg:

1 Brussels enacted Bulgarian railway construction
2 Decorative fountains in Spanish shopping centres
3 Financial migrants to plunder British jobs & swathes of the social fabric in, eg. Lincolnshire
4 The UK (to include this industry) to brace for a major influx of imminent Bulgo-Rumaninian Caravan Utilising Nomadic Travellers :imp:

I think you’ve gone a bit off the topic there but keeping things on topic the bs speed limiter issue is/was just another symptom of the British government selectively picking and choosing which EU directives it wants to ahere to while telling the EU to get stuffed in the case of others when it suits it.

I had intended to make what I considered to be a useful and interesting post on this subject. That is, until I noticed it descending to the usual level.
Never mind- must try to get my bit in earlier.

That doesn’t even make any sense. No surprise there then.

Priceless

Zzzzz

Used to have different limiter speeds for different trucks eg 16 tonne 60mph,24 tonne 58 mph etc and as for it being the fault of the good old “EU” does the UK not have any “representatives” in Brussels?
Does it not also have the power of veto?
Any law introduced in this country that ■■■■■■ folk off is blamed on the bloody EU.
When in reality the UK has just as much if not more say than most of the other 27 member states.
Bout time we stopped blaming every bugger else and started looking at the morons that are on the gravy train in Europe who WE voted in to look after our interests.
