Who can afford to drive?

I got a whole 24mpg out of mine on a 400 mile round trip once driving carefully !!!

Awesome cars when you can go for a blast and forget about the fuel gauge tho

The days when a driver could afford a 50 mile or even a 30 mile commute in a car are gone, and will not return unless someone comes up with a cheaper way of doing it.

Fuel wise I’d be paying the same now to do a 30 mile commute as I was in 2001 when petrol was about £3.50 a gallon. Difference is that back then I did it in a 2L petrol car averaging 33MPG and now I’d do it in an oil burner averaging nearly double that.

Well good for you but I know which drives better out of a petrol car and a diesel car.

Also, even though my car loves petrol…

I think it’s a fair price to pay for keeping the Plebs off of the road, the whole of the UK has been far better to drive in since fuel prices doubled.

Can’t believe you’re talking about what car drives better, then put a photo of a Rover up

Nice 1, needed a good laugh

I’m not sure if the whole diesel car thing works out…
Diesel cars cost more to buy, the fuels more exspensive and when they go wrong cost a fortune.
Ive got a 96 reg 1.8 petrol mondeo and get 38-40 mpg to and from work and 48 on a run.

As things stand at the moment the cheapest way would be a simple pushrod Rover V8 converted to run on LPG. :bulb:

Indeed…I am currently thinking about selling the wifes diesel motor and replacing with a petrol.
And it is now cheaper to run my XJS, than it is to run my Navara pick-up :open_mouth:

I can afford to waste petrol like its going out of fashion…oh wait it will be soon enough.

anyway my saab 2.3 turbo gets about 32mpg if i drive carefully roughly sitting at 65ish.
my bmw can get 30.3mpg out of the 4.4v8 but drops to about 6mpg when i really give it the beans on the track…that and about 20 tyres on a dry trackday
