White van man and mattress

Last few weeks there,s been about 3 or 4 white vans pulling in our yard ,saying that they got a few spare mattresses on from a job. :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: I couldn,t believe one of the fitter,s paid £180 pounds CASH :open_mouth: :open_mouth: for one double matress. They are only £90 from a tidy shop :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

The van was white sprinter type all sign written with telephone numbers etc…This has got to be a con artist !!!

it’ll be some gypo who’s nicked em off the back of a lorry

Thats funny cos they’ve been round our place in Glasgow too. Quite a few folk in our yard have bought off him.

North Wales as well,a couple of months ago.Apparently they were saying that a big hotel chain had rejected a large amount because spec/size were not as ordered.

i can sympathise with them. its a nightmare when you do a single full load drop and find there are 30 pallets instead of 26 so you have to try and sell the excess so the loaders mistake never gets found out

So true, but, it ain`t just the loader your covering for, its his boss, and, all the others above him

Such a shame

There was a similar case around here a few years back…people selling ‘real leather’ sofas for the price you’d pay for a vinyl one. It was done in such a way that people thought they were getting a real bargain because the sofas were in some way not legit (probably stolen).

Hilariously, when you took the covers off your new ‘leather’ sofa, it turned out to be a vinyl one after all…and you’d paid about what the shop price would have been for it.

I didn’t fall for it, but others did.

A lot of years ago, you couldn’t pull into Toddington services without someone knocking on your door trying to sell watches, leather belts, or life insurance from some Canadian company.

Probably just a bit of creative door to door selling.

A mate of mine used to sell a bit of gold jewellery on the side. All bought totally legit from London dealers. He told me that the best way to shift it, at the best price, was to give the impression it was knocked off. The greed factor kicks in and people will assume they are getting a bargain without assessing what they really are getting for they’re money.

Cheers

Not all stuff like this is bad. Over 20 years ago a ■■■■■ turns up at a place where I was spannering selling tools. I bought a set of torx and hex bits from him in a very nice steel box. Still have them, not broken any and I’ve given them real hammer over the years.

Could have been the mattress they removed from the M5 the other night - we had a rolling road block while it was dragged to the side

There was a white van going about by me, they also had a mattress but they were tipping new motorbikes over on it, then dragging the mattress complete with bike into the back :open_mouth: steering lock and chained wheel no bother !

I used to work in a plastic yard doing fascia, soffit and guttering so used to get a lot of â– â– â– â– â–  in.
Every week would be something new, watches, mattresses, knives and forks cutlery set, hi if systems, speakers, TVs, suits, â– â– â– â– !!!
You name it they were selling it.

A guy comes round to our yard i dont know if he sells mattresses but he sells duvets and pillows etc. Guys in work buy them. Its probably â– â– â– â–  thats been banned by trading standards cause they go up in flames in 0.00002 seconds.

A friend who used to work for trading standards kept getting reports of cheap leather sofas with crappy quality. It turned out the reason the stitching on the back was so rough was because they didn’t stitch it up properly after the illegal immigrants were cut out!

Brilliant!

Heard about this bed selling in my area too.

Bound to be knocked off. Buying dodgy stuff just promotes criminal activities

You could buy Amani suits and genuine Rolox watches in the Hollies
