Greetings Eric,

The last I heard of Johnny Unsworth was that he was working for Rijnaart running through to Pakistan but that was in the mid '70’s.

On my list as one to avoid at truck stops!

The last I heard about Johnny was that he had a pacemaker & was a rep for M.A.N in the Midlands. John was one of the original Plotski Pirates. They said Johnny could always get himself outa trouble, but he was better at getting himself into it. 70’s character that couldn’t exist in todays PC climate. Had many a lost weekend/ week with Johnny & Anna. He turned over a trailer load of wine in big barrels in Prato .The barrels crashed into this door & gushed inside. The house belonged to an Italian customs officer. He said,I was coming down the stairs & this wave of wine rushed in the door…! John tried to get a barrel for himself but was unlucky. Any extras went to the cop. After the accident he parked up in Prato Station square & got permanently smashed in Bruno’s. After a few days the drivers noticed that there was blood on his chair when he stood up. A driver from with a beard from Feblands knocked him out & put him in the bed of the truck & someone drove him to UK. John coulda died on that one. You could say,he had a problem with drink?

Another time Roger ,Johnny & another driver in Italy caused a fight on a tram ,the tram driver locked the doors & drove the tram to the police station. The lads smashed the windows & escaped. All part of the TIR learning curve?
That was the start of the Plotski Riots… everywhere they went they caused chaos.

Did a guy called Tony Love work in the office in the 70’s ?

Who was the driver that was a proper Jack the Lad?
Met up with him on many occasions, including once at their yard in Jeddah.
I was working for Chapman and Ball and I was on a milk run,5 drops around the middle east.
I’d done my first drop in Amman customs, and my second drop was in Jeddah, but I only had a PO box number for an address.
I went to the post office and was told they could not let me have clients address, and advised me to write them a letter to tell them I was here!
I said ■■■■ this, there must be an easier way.
I had seen some of Mickey Whites lads outside the docks welding uo trailers,so I asked them where the yard was and trundled off round there.
I met Brian Starbuck and he said,“Leave the crate and paperwork with us,we’ll deliver it for you”,can’t fault the bloke.
I spent the night there before pushing on to my next drop in Riyadh, and that’s when I met up with our comical friend again.
He went on the town that night and blew his wedge on an expensive watch and a cigarette lighter.
Came back to the digs in the early hours and was waking each driver up saying,“It’s 3 am,do you want a light?”,
After my drop in Riyadh I only had two more drops in Dammam, one at a shop in the High Street, and the last drop was set of curtains for some professor at the university.Who says multi drop is boring?

I didn’t know White Trux did Egypt! I am aware that this company is covered elsewhere too, on several other Middle-East threads. Robert

Did they ever set up the Pakistan-India service? Anyone on here ever do it? I know we have one or two who went to Karachi. :open_mouth:

Bullitt: because of Partition, that border has always been tricky for international truckers. I did discuss this subject on the thread called Pakistan’s Karakoram Highway. Here’s the link:
