I am new to all this, I currently work in motorsport, laminating carbon fibre parts, my current wage is £13ph, time and a half after 37hrs and double pay on Sundays.
I have herd a few people say that certain truck companies pay £14ph+ which is obviously more money than what I am on at the moment.
One of the companies I have herd of that pays well is Royal Mail, is Royal Mail classed as top of the tree as far as truck companies go?
In addition to this I have also herd that ADR Class 1 drivers get paid in the region of £35,000+ a year and they are home every night, is this all true or am I getting the wrong end of the stick?
If you’re after good money suggest you stay where you are laminating parts, if you move into transport it could take you ten years to attain hourly rates as good as you are on presently, and some, depending on where they live and their luck, have never seen those rates and never will in a lifetime of lorry driving.
Some jobs pay better, but they are closely guarded in order to keep them in good hands as it were.
Think the likes of Transam & Fly by nite ( do the gigs ) pay well but you can be away for several mth at a time also think you have to help with the unloading re loading building the stage etc yu could look up “euromatt” he has done some diaries from his trips

I wouldn’t like to say for sure, coz I’ve never worked for Transam, but I’m led to believe that its not supermarket/royal mail type money, and many off the guys are self employed, taken on for the duration off a tour. and that works well for some, it certainly looks more out off the ordinary and intresting than supermarket/royal mail work.

Maybe you should look closer to home, in motorsport, truckies are often required to have another string to their bow, which they can bring to the race team. My Brother is a truckie, but truck driving is a small part off his duties, or so he tells Me, maybe you should be looking in that direction.
£13 basic rate is a good wage. I get £8.50 an hour with overtime after 42.5 hours, and that’s ADR work, and you’re certainly not home every night. Alot of fuel tanker drivers are home every night I assume, due to the trucks only having day cabs, those jobs are quite difficult to come across though from what I’ve heard from more experienced ADR drivers than myself.
Only Royal Mail jobs I’ve seen advertised in the transport industry are through agencies, and they weren’t really anything special.

You might get £14 ph+ on Agency at weekends, might,
My tip is stay where you are and any jobs going for me ■■

Your current number sounds alright, what’s making you want to move into lorry driving?
Eddie Snax makes a good point about looking for work within the industry you are already in, you never know you might get your training funded, don’t ask don’t get.
Just fed up working in a room with a bunch of a##holes! plus its boring work and I don’t see any day light, being stuck in a factory. I know £13p/h sounds ok but my basic week is only 37 hours so that’s only a wage of £25k a year which I am sure a lot of you truckers are on basic wage?
What do you mean about getting a job in the industry I am in? do you mean truck driving?
Plus someone commented about getting £41k at Sainsbury’s working night shift, what sort of hours would you have to do to get that wage?

Yep a Truckie, as I said, most Truckies (race team truck drivers) have another role within the team, as driving to and fro the curcuits or to and fro parts suppliers doesnt involve enough time to warrant a full time job, but you would take another skill in to the team. With your background you may well have a skill that would be off use to a team
I know My brother goes all over Europe, whether that be on racing testing or picking up parts, but he still has other roles within the team
